We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ana Acevedo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ana below.
Alright, Ana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew your brand.
When I started creating content on the internet I was really scared, of course, since it’s such an unpredictable project. However, what made me grow from zero to almost 40k subscribers on YouTube is definitely perseverance. I believe the key to make any project work is perseverance, because there’s always going to be days where (in my case) videos go really popular on the platform, and others where your content would be less succesful, but keeping the perseverance is what gives you results over the time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a content creator on YouTube that started just as a hobbie while I was finishing my college degree, but it’s a project that I expect someday will become my full time job.
I decided to create content because I like to give my opinion on different topics and start a debate with my audience. It’s really difficult to stand out in a generation full of people doing the same thing as you, but I’ve managed to get my own audience who, even though I’m creating similar content to others, stick with me because of who I am. And that is what’s helped me grow and gain more audience: staying true to myself and add my personality and heart to everything I do. No matter what kind of topic I’m covering in one of my videos: mental health, personal experiences or the most recent gossip in hollywood… I don’t try to fit in a certain “template” or mold, I just follow what feels right to me and with my personality.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely, when your audicence respond positively to your work and tell you what are the things you’re doing right. When you get in the artist or creative path, you’re always full of doubts wondering if your work is good enough. But getting the recognition and compliments from people that are not your family/friends and are being 100% honest with their review it’s really rewarding.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
You really need to build a thick skin if you want to make a living out of your art. In my case, being exposed on the internet has its good parts, but also leads to get a lot of backlash from people that don’t know how much impact their words can have in you. Even though I “knew” it, you never fully understand the feeling of being attacked for literally anything until you experience it firsthand.
