We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amy Walker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amy below.
Amy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Amyteur Hour stems from a mix of wordplay, transparency, and a reminder to never take myself too seriously. I wanted my brand to feel approachable and accurately communicate my journey as a home chef who is continuously learning. It blends my name, Amy, and the word “amateur,” reflecting my belief that you don’t need professional training to create something delicious in the kitchen. I purposely left out references to “cooking” from the naming convention to allow future room for growth. I want to be able to expand the brand into baking, latte recipes, and more. Amytuer Hour reminds everyone to embrace imperfections, have fun with food, and prove that, with just a dash of patience, anyone can cook.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Amy, the creator behind Amyteur Hour. I started this blog as a way to share my love for cooking while embracing the trials and errors of being an untrained home chef. Growing up, I was the pickiest eater who barely ate any fruits or vegetables. Now, I make it a goal to try as many new foods and recipes as I can to continue expanding and developing my palate, culinary skills, and experiment with new skills. My goal is to make cooking, recipes, and culinary techniques less intimidating. I create approachable, step-by-step tutorials with unique flavor combinations that can get anyone excited about stepping into the kitchen.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
At this point in the digital era that we live in, it’s hard to imagine there are still any unique ideas left to invent. Everyone’s social medias are flooded with hundreds of thousands of options for creators to follow, with most producing brand new content every day. I assumed that in order to start a cooking blog, that also meant I need to post as frequently as possible, keep up with every trend, and develop endless unique dishes.
I have learned that taking breaks is necessary in order to produce my best content. There was a period where I was posting content as quickly as possible for the sake of meeting a certain number of weekly posts. I noticed that I was burnt out and engagement was trending down over time because the quality of content was diminishing.
This was an important lesson in continuing to pursue my passion project even though it does not always take first priority in my life. For me, consistency is more important than perfection and sometimes the best recipes take time to simmer. Just like in cooking, it’s okay to pause, adjust the seasoning, and enjoy the process. After all, Amyteur Hour is all about embracing the joy of learning and growing—one imperfectly delicious dish at a time.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
While I don’t have a large following (yet!), I think foundations of authenticity and transparency are laying the groundwork to help me build my online reputation. On my website and social media channels, I’m always upfront about the fact that I’m not a professional chef—I’m learning as I go, just like many of my followers. I make it a point to share my personality and humor in ways that feel natural and true to me, whether it’s laughing at a recipe fail or celebrating a small win in the kitchen. I’m still in the process of developing my online presence, but I hope my authenticity resonates with people and helps them feel inspired to try new things, even if it seems scary at first.
