We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Vance MS, DTR 200YTT a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy , thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
A story I tell often in my classes of a student of mine who was afraid to do the things she loved because she was worried about the what if situations. Not wanting her to give up on life I spent several weeks offering her solutions to her scenarios and encouraging her to talk to people who had been to the destination to build her confidence to go on the trip. After a few weeks she told me she was nervous but was going on the trip. She had a blast and we spent time looking at all her pictures together when she came home. After that trip she continued to take my classes and work through those situations to help her build confidence to do more things she had given up hope on.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello, I own a wellness business AV Yoga and Wellness LLC. I contract with other organizations to bring programs to their facility, outdoor space or online. My business organically built itself because of my education and trainings. I knew since high school I wanted to help people I thought I would grow up and be a Sports Dietitian working for a NBA or NFL team. Then life happened and two kids later I’m working in community health. I wouldn’t change it for the world knowing every day I get to help someone live a healthier life either through education, physical fitness or nutrition counseling.
What sets me a part from other people in my field is I specialize in older adults those 60 plus. I teach several yoga classes geared to the aging population each week alongside my other yoga classes. Besides yoga I also offer older adult fitness classes at Independent living communities and evidence based programs. These evidence based programs are not limited to the aging population they help everyone.
So how does these help the community you might ask? My programs and classes encourage people to believe in themselves, that they are not alone and anything is possible if you take one step at a time. I offer my phone number to all my students so they know they have a friend, if life is hard or just need someone to check on them.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, but I would change how long it took me to get here. I spent time self-doubting myself thinking I was too young, not smart enough and that others were better. I would also find better Mentor’s who continued to grow themselves.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Network, Network, Network. You never know when a door might open.
