We were lucky to catch up with Amy Singleton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amy Singleton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When my partner Joseph & I decided to start a marketing agency, we were practically living separate lives. I had been a registered nurse for what seemed like eons, but my own health took that physically demanding job away from me years ago- so I was at home, with much to do about nothing. I felt a calling to serve again, but how? My partner, who has been a serial entrepreneur his entire adult life, was running his oil field consulting agency from West Texas (over 8 hours away from our home in Oklahoma City.) He has extensive background in founding & operating home services businesses. We were looking for a way to solve a problem in our community. We considered so many options to open a new business to serve Oklahoma, but the problem we kept coming back to was the fact that Joseph had paid SO MUCH MONEY to marketing agencies and lead services who promised the moon & delivered BUBKISS, NADA, ZILCH. We finally realized that running a small business is HARD. The marketing part of that is even harder. Harder still, is knowing who you can TRUST to guide you in that effort. We now spend our days talking with business owners & helping them to solidify themselves in the online space so that their websites become lead generating machines. Not worrying about where the next lead will come from, with a partner you can trust at the helm, is giving our clients the peace of mind they need to grow & scale their businesses.
Amy Singleton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We got into business because we felt that there weren’t enough marketing agencies delivering for their clients. We, along with our team of 200, deliver logos, brand manuals, brand messaging, websites, SEO, paid advertising & swag for our clients. What sets us apart is that our model is completely different than MOST agencies. What you get with most agencies is 1 of 2 things: Small, boutique agencies who outsource to white label partners & HUGE companies where you get lost in the mix with ZERO communication. At HITE, we’re a franchise model. Not only do we have 20 locations from coast to coast, we have an internal team of over 200, that we’re in constant communication with. We are able to use our HUGE amount of client data to direct campaigns for all of our clients in a variety of industries. Our organization is on a mission to change the country of Nicaragua (where our team is based) with higher paying jobs, familial support & higher education. We’re currently the 3rd largest employer of that country, with goals to employ over 1000 team members. Not only is Nicaragua positively effected, but all of the small teams at our local franchises & the hundreds of businesses we serve AND their customers. It’s truly a win-win-win.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
As a part of our initial business model, we were “ranking & renting” websites. This means we would put up a website in a home-services industry, SEO that thing, & get leads coming in to sell to business owners who couldn’t afford SEO or paid advertising. We had a killer painting site, but didn’t find a painter to fulfill the leads right away. My partner Joseph, who has tons of experience in this space, started a business for ourselves. The next thing we knew, we were running 3 crews of painters & fulfilling huge residential & commercial paint jobs. Since our intention wasn’t to run another business, we were able to sell this “business in a box” simply because of the great logo, branding, website & excellent SEO- which means organic LEADS. The lesson is that a top-ranking website can add THOUSANDS of dollars to the top line when selling your business. Leads are the lifeblood of any business, and a top ranking website with plenty of SEO juice will go a long way in that sale.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started by connecting with 2 new people every day. People I didn’t know, but who had common interests & locations, or mutual friends. Being genuine & interacting with those people caused them to interact back with me, and by default, my content shows up for them more. Posting tons of value and truly being myself & putting it all out there has helped me to grow my presence. It’s truly about consistency, value, & being yourself.
