We recently connected with Amy Schromm and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
My photography career began at an international advertising agency. Getting real world experience was helpful before branching out on my own. Working as a producer and photography assistant I learned the administrative side while perfecting my craft. As a commercial photographer lead for seven years, I was able to master lighting and technique. Food, product, and lifestyle photography were my specialties. Every day brought a different client, and every day brought new lessons. Working at an advertising agency not only perfected my craft and taught me how to work with top tier clients, but I learned how to produce and do all the behind-the-scenes magic. Blending the two together, (producing and photography) gave me the tools I needed to start my own business.
Marketing and sales knowledge is also helpful when making a career out of your creative medium.

Amy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a commercial photographer, director, and producer. I work with national and local clients providing professional photography and videos. My clients range from advertising agencies, and production companies to direct to business. Expertise includes product, food and beverage, lifestyle, athletes, and celebrity work. With over ten years of experience, I am loving the variety and adding motion to the photography.
My newest passion is my podcast launching soon- “Tell Me More with Amy”. We will be showcasing creators and entrepreneurs around the world. We are excited to “Tell you More!”
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
There are so many resources out there for creatives to have a successful business. I wish I knew about them starting out! Get out there, meet people, network and form a community. Most of my clients come to me by word of mouth. The bigger your network is the better. You never know what connection will lead to your next job.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to showcase the beauty and story of any brand, person or subject I am photographing, I love capturing the essence of any subject matter and transferring the beauty into the visual language.
