Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy Ramsey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I had my own staging and design business and was working several different jobs after my youngest son died from brain cancer in 2020. He has five years old. I had been a stay at home mom taking care of our three sons… but when our youngest went to heaven I knew I needed to be busy so went back to work. I had about an eight jobs before I started Jett&Rose. A home decor and gift shop named after my beloved little boy and my grandma is Rose. The owner of the shop prior to mine had called me and said “I’m closing my shop and I think you should take over the spot”. I didn’t know how to open a shop? I didn’t know if I had the money to open a shop. However, I knew it had to right. It was what I had been waiting for. I quickly found the money, went to market, found a POS system and opened my little shop.
Amy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a self taught Interior Designer. I learned watching my mom and grandmother. From their fabulous outfits to beautiful furnishings… my mom and grandma taught about style and making things beautiful. They also taught be how to make anything beautiful. You don’t always have to buy something new. Work with what you have. While I still help clients make their homes beautiful my main job now is being a shop owner. I work with vendors and curate my shop during each new season. I love to tell stories using color. I want there to be something for everyone who steps into my shop. The prices and service reflect that. We are a joyful shop.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After our youngest son passed away I just knew I couldn’t stay home any longer. My other children were older and being home alone all day wasn’t going to be healthy. I was a teachers aide, manager of a Covid testing site, front desk manager at a women’s clinic, I had my own staging and design business….. sometimes I would have three jobs at once. Just to stay busy. However non of these jobs left me feeling fulfilled. I waited and prayed and hoped for the perfect job. I knew it would come if I just continued to persevere. Here I am today spending my dad in this beautiful shop and helping and caring for the people in my community. This job is so much more than a gift shop. It’s an outreach. A joyful place where anyone can come to find some joy. Also, I have had the opportunity to help people whose cars have broken down, homeless people, other grieving mama’s who come in just to tell me their story. I have won the lottery in a job.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How to build a presence on social media? For me, I took some classes I found online about social media. I try to post everyday, photos of yourself do much better than photos of your merchandise, reels are a great platform… and being myself. I don’t take myself too seriously and I’m always up for making fun of myself! It’s important to have fun! I also use the boosts/ads when needed.
