Hi Amy , thanks for joining us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers

That’s a tie. I’ve had police called to calm family drama at a 5 star resort, my own labor contractions, brides fainting, bodyguards and father of the brides hitting on my staff. Twenty years in the wedding industry I have seen it all. Fortunately I grew up in my own crazy familia and have a high tolerance for insanity.

The most important thing is for us to stay calm at all times and help the bride stay calm, We as makeup artists are the closest person to the bride in the moments leading up to her wedding. It’s very rewarding to not only make her look beautiful, but also feel happy and be a support to her on such an emotional day.

I had early labor contractions while doing a bride’s makeup but was able to finish the wedding and the bride became a great friend of mine and 9 years later we still joke about that.

Amy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

You could say painting faces runs in my DNA. As a little girl she watched in awe as her mom, a portrait artist, brought faces to life on canvas. I sashayed into the fashion world as a style/beauty reporter, covering fashion photo shoots and events. After going behind the scenes at New York Fashion week in 2002,I was hooked. I was in awe watching the hair and makeup people backstage. I was always behind the scenes on photo shoots – interviewing the makeup artists and I realized I wanted to do it myself, not just report on it.. Since then I’ve worked with celebrities and high profile clients including: Pit Bull, Kim Kardashian, President Obama, Christiane Amanpour, Vivica Fox, Matt Damon, Def Jam Artist Rick Ross (Hustlin’ Music Video), Jeb Bush, President Barack Obama, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Assistant State Attorney Stacey Honowitz, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez, CNN, FOX, NBC, HBO, AOL, The American Black Film Festival, Discovery Channel, and on national commercials and magazines including People Magazine and US Weekly.

I opened South Beach Makeup Studio, in 2004 and have worked on thousands of weddings and tv productions.

What sets me apart is training (Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry) and how I treat my clients. I geniunely care about helping them for happy and beautiful and go the extra mile to take care of them..

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Yes. During Covid the makeup industry completed shut down which was a scary time for us and me as a Single Mom supporting a household. So I went back to my previous profession of being a TV News Producer. I produced a morning news show. I enjoyed it because I actually do miss the business, so it was fun to go back to it. Thanks to our governer our state opened sooner than many other areas so I was able to return and reopen my business.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

When my children were small I took a break from weddings so I could spend time with them on Saturdays. Little kids have birthday parties and activities and I was missing everything. So I changed my focus to television and video shoots which are primarily on weekdays. Now that they are older I am back to doing weddings and love it.
