Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy & Nell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amy & Nell, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
When we met, we quickly realised we shared the same dream. We’d both always wanted to start a business, something mobile and community focused, but had never quite found the courage to do it. As a same sex couple, we also knew that one day we’d need to fund our IVF journey, which gave us the motivation to finally take the leap and turn that shared dream into something real.
That’s how Little Lou’s was born. From the beginning, we wanted it to be more than just a coffee trailer. We wanted to create a place built on kindness and connection, where people could pause for a moment and share their little moments of joy. Every coffee served feels like a small step towards our own big moment of joy — becoming parents.
In November 2024, Amy made the big decision to leave her corporate job to run Little Lou’s full time, while Nell stayed in her full time role to keep some stability. Our first pitch went terribly, and we lost money before we’d even really begun. But looking back, it was the best thing that could have happened. It taught us lessons that shaped everything that followed.
Almost a year later, we’ve found our dream riverside pitch along the Thames. Business is growing every day, and we’ve built the most amazing community around us. It’s been hard work, and we’ve both worked seven days a week to get here, but every cup poured and every smile shared reminds us why the risk was worth it. Little Lou’s has already given us so much, and it’s bringing us one step closer to the family we hope to have.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re Nell and Amy, the couple behind Little Lou’s, a pink and green coffee trailer parked riverside in Battersea serving speciality coffee, locally made gelato and little moments of joy. When we met, we quickly discovered we both had the same dream of starting a small business. We wanted to create something mobile, people focused and full of heart. Coffee felt like the perfect way to bring people together, spark conversation and spread a bit of kindness.
Our story is personal as much as it is entrepreneurial. As a same sex couple, we know our journey to parenthood will be through IVF, which inspired us to build something that not only supports our future family but also uplifts others along the way. Every coffee we serve helps us work towards that dream, and every customer interaction reminds us why we started: to create connection and community through simple, joyful moments.
At Little Lou’s, what truly sets us apart is the atmosphere. We’ve built a space that feels welcoming and familiar, where people can take a pause in their day and feel part of something. Whether it’s a chat at the hatch, a laugh shared over a latte or a scoop of gelato on a sunny afternoon, we want every visit to feel like a lift.
We’re most proud of the community that’s formed around Little Lou’s. What began as a small trailer has become a daily meeting spot where regulars share stories, celebrate milestones and find comfort in a cup. Our goal has always been to turn a simple coffee run into a small act of joy, and that’s exactly what Little Lou’s has become.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Running Little Lou’s has tested our resilience more than anything we’ve ever done, but it’s also shown us what we’re capable of when we commit to something we truly believe in. From the very beginning, we promised ourselves we’d stay consistent no matter what. That meant showing up every day, through every type of weather, and giving people the same warm welcome whether it was pouring with rain or glowing with sunshine.
There have been plenty of dark, cold mornings when the alarm goes off before sunrise and we question our life choices. Amy has battled chilblains through the winter, and we’ve both stood for hours in storms that seemed determined to blow the trailer away. But no matter how tough it gets, we know that being there matters.
That consistency has become one of the most important parts of our business. It’s built trust with our customers, many of whom now plan their day around their visit to Little Lou’s. They know we’ll be there with a smile and a coffee, whatever the weather.
For us, resilience isn’t just about hard work. It’s about showing up, keeping promises, and creating a space people can rely on. Every morning we open the hatch, no matter how wet or windy, we’re reminded that the effort is always worth it.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When we first started Little Lou’s, we knew we wanted our social media to feel as personal as the experience at the trailer. From the beginning, our goal wasn’t just to post photos of coffee, but to show the people behind it. We wanted followers to feel connected to us, to understand who we are and why Little Lou’s exists.
Consistency has been key. Just like we show up every day at the trailer, we’ve tried to show up online too. Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes video, a funny moment between the two of us, or an update from our riverside pitch, we’ve found that being ourselves goes much further than a perfectly styled coffee shot ever could.
Branding has also played a big part in building our audience. We make sure our pink and green colours are always present on our grid so that everything feels instantly recognisable and true to Little Lou’s. That simple consistency helps us stand out and feel cohesive across every platform.
We’ve also used local Facebook groups and area-based Instagram pages to connect with nearby communities. Collaborating with local groups and other small businesses has been a great way to reach new people who share our values.
Our advice for anyone starting out is to show your face, share your story and stay consistent. People connect with people, not just products. If you can build genuine connections, the following will grow naturally.
