We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Mattila a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Since 2011 I’ve been working in wellness and health coaching. My career has covered health insurance firms, financial institutions, primary care in clinical settings, worksite and employee wellness, and a digital health start-up. When I hit year five at the digital health company as an Innovative Program Manager, I knew it was now or never. It wouldn’t ever get easier to leave the comfort and stability of a steady paycheck and the support community of my colleagues. But I knew if I didn’t follow my heart’s calling I would always have regret and wonder about what might have been. So, without a safety net, I gave 4 weeks’ notice and leaped into starting my coaching practice. Amy Mattila Wellness.
The first few months flew by as I spent time catching up on life, paperwork, and things I’d been neglecting, like sleep and rest. The next three months my energy, creativity, and vision started to come into focus. I started working on my branding, website, program, offering, and exactly what I felt I wanted to offer the world. I officially opened my door before my birthday in March!
1 in 3 people have anxiety. I have had anxiety my whole life and wanted to create a coaching program that I wish would have existed. The Calm Confidence Coaching program helps liberate and free up as many people as possible to live a life not controlled by fear or worry. They can finally start trusting themselves and be fully present in life.
Amy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
YOU GET ONE LIFE, ARE YOU LIVING IT FULLY? I BELIEVE CHANGE IS POSSIBLE!
“I work with people who have big dreams and huge goals. They want to make a difference in the world but they’re stuck, scared, and overwhelmed. I help them restore hope, figure out where to begin, and make a plan so they can step into their brilliance!”
THOUGHT ON COACHING
Wellness Coaching is not for the faint of heart and will produce results that will radically shift how you feel every day. Not only will it change you but can create a ripple effect to positively influence all those around you (friends and family). You will be living life free on the inside which is where it all begins my friend. There is love here to free you up to live the life you have always dreamed about. It’s time for you to share that beauty with the world and light it up.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I feel one of the most important things to be successful in life, including the field of health and wellness is community. We often think owning your own company or practice makes you in it on your own or that you must be competitive. I have found the more community I have in life, especially in areas of expertise the more knowledge, brilliance, and creativity I have at my fingertips. We are truly in this thing called life together. I have several coaches I meet with weekly where we support, collaborate, and problem-solve. We inspire and push one another to take bigger risks and be vulnerable. We one of us make a step forward, we all do.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are so many books that I adore not only in my field but as a woman as an entrepreneur. “We Should All Be Millionaires,” by Rachel Rodgers has profoundly impacted me and taught me about mindset and how to be able to shift this so you can be successful. We often have hidden biases around success being a woman. This book has helped me loosen and remove some of these faulty institutional ways of thinking I was unaware of.
