We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful AMY LUCK. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with AMY below.
AMY, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
My role as an engineer at my previous job helped me with many aspects with SWS VINTAGE such as structure, time management, meeting deadlines, and communicating with clients. There were many things I had to learn and pick up as a business owner that I no experience in. I learned and am still learning that every business has a low and high season.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Before I started SWS VINTAGE, I was working in the engineering field. I have always had a keen eye for unique things. I have been incorporating Mom’s vintage jewelry and accessories into my wardrobe since high school.
How I got into selling vintage is pretty out of the blue. One day my friend said to me, I think you should sell vintage. People are always asking you what you’re wearing, so why not share it with them? So, that’s how SWS VINTAGE was born!
SWS VINTAGE – SWS stands for “something we seek.” As humans, we are always seeking something new, exciting, and unique. We are a quality-focused vintage store specializing in vintage costume jewelry and accessories. Our selection of jewelry and accessories is curated for the modern wardrobe. We want people to be able to easily incorporate vintage pieces into whatever they’re wearing.
One thing I do want people to know is that the shopping experience they’ll get from us whether it’s online or in-person is what sets us apart from other vintage stores. Because we’re a quality-focused vintage store, everything we carry has minimal flaws. All items have been meticulously inspected for flaws and function. We have a transparent policy where we describe all notable flaws of an item on the website.
I have mapped out what SWS Vintage will be in the next 10 years. I hope to see us partnering with major retailers and doing more pop-up events throughout the year.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think our transparent product descriptions and customer service. We want our clients to know exactly what they’re getting each time they buy from us.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I would say I have a pretty strong background in customer relations from my previous job but my marketing skills were weak. This book Cashvertising by Drew Eric Whitman helped me tremendously and I highly recommend.
