We recently connected with Amy Laskye and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
When I was young, I spent much of my free time with a film camera and was a staff photographer for my high schools’ yearbook and newsletter. I enjoyed it so much, I entered college to become a professional photographer. At the time, art school was directed more toward drawing & illustrating, so I quickly switched my major to something that offered a bit more stability; Microbiology.
I have often wondered if I had stayed in art classes where I would be today. Better late than never, so here I am living my best life and doing what I have always loved.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello! I’m Amy May Laskye, a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) and the proud owner of Amy May Photography & Reflections Boudoir Studio in the charming town of Galena, IL. My journey into the world of photography began as a personal quest to capture the authentic beauty in everyday moments. With a passion for storytelling and a keen eye for detail, I decided to pursue a career that allows me to help others see the beauty within themselves. Over the years, I have honed my craft, earning my certification and building a full-service portrait and boudoir studio dedicated to empowering individuals through the art of photography.
At Amy May Photography, I specialize in portrait and boudoir sessions that celebrate and reveal the unique beauty of each client. My services range from professional headshots and family portraits to intimate boudoir sessions designed to boost self-confidence and self-love. What sets my studio apart is the personalized experience I offer. From the moment you reach out, I work closely with you to understand your vision, ensuring that each session is tailored to reflect your personality and style. My goal is to create a comfortable and supportive environment where you can truly be yourself, allowing your inner beauty to shine through.
I am incredibly proud of the transformations I witness in my clients. Seeing someone walk into my studio with hesitation and leave with newfound confidence is the most rewarding part of my job. The heartfelt testimonials and the joy in my clients’ eyes are constant reminders of why I love what I do. At Amy May Photography, it’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about capturing the essence of who you are and providing you with images that remind you of your strength and beauty every day. I want potential clients to know that when they choose my studio, they are choosing a partner in their journey towards self-discovery and empowerment. My mission is to help you embrace your unique beauty and to create timeless portraits that you will cherish for a lifetime.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to empower individuals by helping them see and embrace their unique beauty. I believe that everyone has a story worth telling and a beauty worth celebrating, and my goal is to capture this through my lens. Whether it’s through a transformative boudoir session or a timeless family portrait, I strive to create an environment where my clients feel seen, valued, and confident. By fostering a sense of self-assurance in those I photograph, I hope to inspire them to carry that confidence into their everyday lives, transforming not only how they see themselves but also how they interact with the world around them. This mission is the heartbeat of my work, and it fuels my passion for photography every single day.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely, several resources have significantly shaped my management and entrepreneurial philosophy. Donald Miller’s StoryBrand has been instrumental in refining how I communicate my brand’s story. It taught me the importance of clarity and how to position my clients as the heroes of their own stories, with my services acting as the guide to their journey. Gary Vaynerchuk’s Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook and Crushing It! have been invaluable in understanding the nuances of social media marketing and the importance of providing value before making an ask. These books helped me develop a strategic approach to building a strong, authentic online presence and engaging with my audience meaningfully.
Additionally, hiring a business coach has been a game-changer. The personalized guidance and accountability have helped me navigate the complexities of running a business, from setting realistic goals to developing effective strategies for growth. Networking with other creatives, especially photographers and artists, has also been crucial. These interactions provide a sense of community and continuous learning, allowing me to share experiences, gain new insights, and stay inspired. These resources collectively have enriched my entrepreneurial journey, equipping me with the tools and mindset needed to lead Amy May Photography with confidence and creativity.
