We recently connected with Amy Jaquish and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I have worked on, is a story I did on Calgary’s very own Taylor Swift. Her name is Seraphina and I was so excited to be able to tell her story. She quickly came to fame by performing in her university’s cafeteria as Taylor Swift. This project is meaningful to me because I was fully hands-on with the story. From editing, filming, and creating the questions it was me on my own. Seraphina’s story was one of a kind and I’m so grateful to be one of the first to tell it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always loved writing it’s a way of creating one’s very own world. Even from when I was little I understood the power of words. I really grew into journalism however when in the mornings I would watch the news with my mother. Watching the news with her really inspired me with the idea of telling other people’s stories. So much goes untold even with the growth of access to information there are so many small voices not being heard. That’s why I chose journalism because I want to help tell the stories of those who struggle to tell them. As I grew up I also began to see the beauty in photography. I love being able to capture such special moments with the click of a button so I have also been fine-tuning my skills in this area. Overall though my biggest inspirations and reasons as to why I got into this industry are my mom and two sisters. I grew up in a household of such successful women and all I strive for is to make them proud. They are my biggest inspirations.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is the joy it brings people. I love seeing people’s reactions to the photos and moments I am able to capture. I work a lot with comedians and performers so it always feels rewarding to be able to capture moments in their career.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
While my repuation is something that is still growing, I find kindness is one of the backbones of my reputation. I make an effort with everyone I meet to show the kindness and respect that they deserve. When so much of the world remains negative, I find being kind is a great answer.
