Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy Gordon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
One summer day, my three dogs escaped (as they often do) and wandered into a neighbors yard. It was then that I met Jacqueline Stanford, a former triathlete and neighbor of 18 years and she taught pottery classes right in her backyard. Out of curiosity, I signed up for one of her classes and serendipitously found my passion for clay. Eventually I set up my own studio which I am in as often as I can.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Amy Gordon and I live in Los Angeles, California. After a career as a graphic designer and fashion art director, I spent the next 23 years raising my three amazing children. I continued to always keep my toe in the creative pool. I designed and opened a restaurant in Brentwood, CA and did the interior design on many homes. I also continued my graphic design on may projects. Being creative is what makes me the happiest. I am an avid gardener and I love to cook. My pottery feflects that with organic themes and Im always influenced by my garden.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think it pretty cool that after I’m long gone, my pottery will remain for a very long time. there is something special about knowing you will always be remembered. Even if it just someone flipping over one of my pots and seeing my mark.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To be honest I really have no idea how I got so many followers. I just started posting more for myself as a journal of my progress and I started getting tons of followers. Other pottery sights were reposting and it just kind of exploded from there. I guess people like that I was showing my process start to finish.
