We were lucky to catch up with Amy Goldberg recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is an illusive thing. In fact the definition of illusive means deceptive. Something to consider, is to ask yourself, “what does success look-like for me?” Success means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Interestingly, your definition of success will change over time. What you thought success was when you first started out, will be quite different as you move through your journey. I find that exciting. My viewpoint from the vantage point where I’m at now in my life is best defined by what I’m going to create, collaborate on, develop, get involved with, that gives me flexibility, autonomy, and adventure, while working with kind and empowered people. Now, that didn’t always happen. I took many winding roads where I needed to find my way back on my path. And, trust me, I’ve worked with a lot of people, and not all of them led with kindness. However, my knowing what I needed in order to be successful enabled me to better understand what it would take, and took, in order to be successful. In knowing this, I stayed focused, determined, curious, and never gave up when others did early on. You need to keep going. Momentum and perseverance.

Amy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As creative entrepreneur, producer, business strategist, health & wellness warrior, and writer, I’m the founder + creator of Push Back Productions; ‘created to create.’ My journey so far has been an interesting ride, with lots of falling down, getting up, dusting off, leaning in, pushing back, and learning lots – all the while creating & building things. Along the way I found much better ways of approaching things. Better thinking, better strategies, and a smarter approach to creating sustainable growth and success.
As a creative entrepreneur and producer, I manifest ideas and, with ninja-level ability, and with keen awareness and observation, I go out and make things happen. Without action … nothing’s moving. These abilities have enabled me to effectively generate ideas, build businesses, and create highly successful collaborations.
My diverse background has allowed me to evolve and hone transferable skills that otherwise would never have been realized. It’s also sharpened my abilities to see what needs to be done, then action them.
My passion is to inspire others, and evolve creatively. My hope is that I challenge thinking – deliberately and on purpose. I can be found writing, podcasting, producing, creating, consulting, speaking, teaching, strategizing, and collaborating for positive action-focused results.
As a writer my previous books, BE YOUR TRUTH, and KNOW, REALLY are the precursors to C’MON, a book I’m currently writing. This book series shows you how to identify, defeat, and deconstruct the inner barriers preventing you, and holding you back from, living your life. Whatever that may be for you.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
In my experience working from a more linear perspective can throw off a creative. Typically one may look at something from A-Z, and yet, as a creative, it can go from A-B, to Z, back to A, to S, and so forth. There’s no such thing as a line. It’s one squiggly, turning which ever way, swinging loop-t-loop maze. And yet the results may be the same as one thinking more linear, however I’ll bet my last dollar that more creative thinking resulted in better outcomes. This also goes with hiring creative people. Read between the lines and under them. Look for the diverse background, and crazy adventures. Give creative people the autonomy and flexibility to design what works for them – because when you do, the results can be spectacular. You cannot hold down a creative. Don’t even try. Plus it’s no fun. Rules are meant to be looked at differently. So take a creative ride now and then with a creative person and see what they see. You will expand your thinking.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s such a struggle to be an artist or creative that when you do have ‘wins,’ you feel like you’re flying. You realize that after all the hit and miss, colossal failures, and downright falling flat on your face, magic does happen when you don’t give up or in. The rewards come to those who don’t give up. Who keep going, adjusting, altering, and staying true to their intent. It takes strength and a trust in oneself to stay on the creative path. For me, I enjoy the collaboration. I thrive in creative and open-minded environments. Environments where you just sense that the vibe is, “Rebel on.” Gotta love that.
