We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amy Cobb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amy below.
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Well, About six years ago, the notion of launching a catering and seasonings company crossed my head. My family member and I were chatting away simply discussing some garlic cloves and potential money-making uses for them. After thinking about the talk for two weeks, I decided to look into ways to launch a modest home-based business selling packaged herbs and spices.
As I read countless blogs, articles, and other relevant materials about North Carolina’s Cottage Law, I turned into the Google queen. After contacting NC State, I discovered that I was headed in the right direction. I contrasted suppliers who had the best items, competitive shipping, and multiple options.
In addition to creating the logo, I designed the labels. After that, I started working on creating my website. At first, it was scary, but after a ton of errors, everything began to make sense.
After the inspection, I could be sure that my house complied with the health requirements of North Carolina’s cottage statute. I was now prepared to take care of all the financial information and tax paperwork.
I decided to start using social media to promote my items after doing some study on the subject. I bought a few tiny advertising to reach the counties around. In addition to shooting product images and videos, which I found to be really beneficial.
I’m in awe of myself for being able to go from knowing how to process garlic to realizing my dream, and I eagerly await the direction that my ideas and dreams will lead me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, my name is Amy Cobb and I’m the founder and owner of Ruth’s Seasonings and Catering. I decided to create a low sodium seasonings line without all of the additives and preservatives to provide a more healthier way to add flavor to dishes.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started people did not understand what I was doing and I had endure negative comments but I had to push through and continue to follow my dream. I also had to create my brand, logo, decide on which vendor that would work best and everything else that comes along with starting a business but I am so grateful for all of the information that I was able to learn from so many platforms.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn how I handled my funds. I made the mistake of mixing my funds together which made things very difficult when it came to book keeping but now I’ve found that things are much easier by making sure that the two are kept separate.
