Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy Ashway. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Covid-19 really created an increase in interest in more natural solutions to keeping healthy and we feel like there should be a trusted place where people can go locally to try herbs and other natural products with the knowledge and satisfaction that all products are Certified Organic, ethically harvested, fair trade and of the best quality. Purchasing items online can be difficult if one has no idea where it was sourced or what it is supposed to look like. We feel the benefit of offering these products is helping the local community find more natural options to improve their daily life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Having personally endured a Traumatic Brain Injury at age 12, my history with conventional/pharmaceutical options for stress and anxiety led me down a long road of anguish and frustration. Having much better results with natural herbs, it was somewhat shocking to me that some of these herbs are not discussed in the Doctor’s office, considering how well they work for most.
Divine intervention stepped in and I happened to be at the right place at the right time and was able to gain immeasurable knowledge from a kind woman eager to share her knowledge and instruction on creating my own Apothecary and Crystal shop. From there, I dove in and made it my purpose to share all that I’ve learned and continue learning, which quite a bit is from my customers!
I want people to know that they can be their own healer! Just like I’m doing, with no formal training.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We don’t really advertise and rely on word of mouth for new customers. I’ve found that people trust their friends and family over a gimmick. We prefer the organic growth, which can be difficult when running a business. Especially when everything in the business world is screaming for higher numbers. Makes me question if I’m really the best person for this!
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
For the first month of the Covid Lockdown, we were trying not to panic, but just kept showing up! Getting our products was taking three times as long due to shipping delays and our customer count was down exponentially. We had to cut back to just my husband and I working and even though we were current on bills, it was cutting it closer than we were comfortable with. Fortunately, after almost six years in business, we have a regular clientele that we owe our existence to.
