Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amphay Ivers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amphay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was someone who came in to see me when I was still in nail school. I was assigned to this client during school. I told her I was opening up my own home nail studio. After graduating nail school I contacted the client and she was more than happy to be my first official client!
I was nervous and excited at the same time, because now I was doing this on my own and becoming my own boss.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started doing nails on myself because I was tired of getting mediocre nails at the nail shops. Every time I’d tell the nail tech what I wanted they’d never do it the way I wanted and I’d end up having to fix it myself.
That was when I decided to do my own nails. I had been doing my own nails for about two years and I’d practice on some of my family too.
My nails got the attention of my husband and he suggested that I should go to nail school, it took me awhile to actually go through with it.
Nail school required you to do 300 hours which would normally take someone about 3 months or more. I was able to finish it in about 7 weeks.
During the time I was in school I knew I wanted to own my own nail salon, and that’s when I decide I would turn a spare room into my own nail studio.
My specialties that I offer are dry pedicures, acrylic/gel extensions and luminary overlays.
What’s a dry pedicure you may ask? It’s a full service pedicure without water. It’s much cleaner and environmentally friendly, it’s especially safe for diabetics.
If you want to extend your nails longer then hard gel or acrylic is for you.
If you have brittle or thin nails then I use a product called Luminary, it’s a soft gel that goes over your natural nail. This soft gel goes on as a protective layer to protect your nails and helps keep them strong while they’re growing out.
There’s nothing better than knowing that I can help my clients by making them feel beautiful after they get they’re nails done. I never rush to get the service done, my clients are my number one priority, without them I wouldn’t be here.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I started out I already had majority of the products I needed to do nails.
However, I still had to turn a spare bedroom into my nail studio. I bought all the materials myself. There wasn’t much work to be done in the room except changing out the flooring and new paint. I was lucky that my husband knew how to do the flooring which saved us money.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience or clientele on social media is harder than one thinks. You have to be constantly active and be able to post, which can take a lot of your time.
