Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amorette “Epiphany” Lormil. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Amorette “Epiphany” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I realized I wanted to pursue life as a creative professionally as soon as I realized I was talented. I’ve admired music and literature my entire life. The potency of words always held weight with me. My brother encouraged me to find my pen when I was 11 years young. He celebrated me when I would finish verses and poems. I thought to myself I want more people to feel this way when I speak and write. The stage has been my safe space ever since. I couldn’t imagine being anything besides a storyteller.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a spoken word artist, vocalist, and writer. I began writing as a pre-teen but I didn’t really start performing until I got to high school. My creative writing teacher Ms. Latimer pushed me to participate in a poetry slam on campus. The audience erupted when I finished my poem. I’ve essentially been performing ever since. I’ve gone on to write poems for government officials, major sports league, and professional athletes. I’ve taught young incarcerated men to write poems and share their stories as well. A small moment of faith in me has been the catalyst for my now career. Foremost, I write and I speak. However, I also teach others how to write and perform as well.
Everything about me sets me apart from others. I was designed cell by cell for this very space I occupy. The way I captivate a room is a feat that can only be appreciated by those special enough to bear witness.
I’m most proud of publishing my work. I hid it from the world for a long while. My first poetry collection Muppy celebrates my hometown and my spoken word EP Heaven & Hardship compliments it.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe that society can actually invest real dollars and creatives to best support them. From the infrastructures we live in to the cars that we drive to the marketing that we consume… art directly impacts our day to day lives.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being an artist is the connections that you make to your community and the way you inspire others.
