We recently connected with Amoraa J and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, AMORAA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
I’ve had a handful of different types of jobs but my absolute favorite has been working as a full-time artist. With that being said, the best person I’ve worked with (and had the honor to call my boss) is the legendary actor, Danny Trejo. I was signed to his record label for 3 years and for 3 years, he completely changed the trajectory of my life. He is one of the best people I’ve ever met…. he taught me how important it is to give back to the community, to use your voice for good, and to always thank God for all the things we have provided for in this lifetime. I learned a lot working with him. Aside from his humbleness, he gave me the chance to grow as an artist, he believed in me and gave me the platform to build a name for myself. Danny is one of the most selfless people. I hope I can give him everything he deserves one day. A true inspiration to not just me, but so many. I’m blessed to have been a small part of his legacy.

AMORAA , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Singing was always something that I gravitated towards naturally. I’ve always loved singing but never really took it seriously until after graduating college. I took a leap of faith and instead of pursuing my degree (broadcast journalism) I decided to take a chance on my real passion; singing. I made covers on Instagram, released my first R&B single back in 2019 and to my surprise, THE DANNY TREJO, reached out saying he loved my video. Thanks to my friend Mike Valdez, Danny got ahold of my video and decided to give me a call for a meet-up. Fast forward to a year later, (after lots of persistent texting) I met up with him, Baby Bash and a couple of other artists and producers. I introduced myself and signed with him immediately after.
I look back and think of how much I’ve accomplished and it truly makes me emotional. I’ve done about 50 shows now, released an album and lots of singles, I’ve sang the National Anthem at the Dodgers Stadium, I’ve done interviews on National television (ABC, CBS, FOX, LA Times) and it’s just been a blessing. I’m so proud of myself and I can’t wait for more people to tune into my music.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Give an artist the opportunity to change your world. Discover and take a deep-dive in their music and get to know them! Watch interviews, go to their shows and see if you resonate with them.
Music changed my life, I hope I can change yours positively.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, creative or even as a person, we endure lots of challenges. If there’s one thing I can say anyone who’s reading (or two, thank you) is no matter how tough it gets, FEEL those emotions but remember to GET BACK UP. You have no idea how many times i’ve wanted to quit because I felt like I wasn’t good enough or nothing was improving.
My journey is to prove to you that anything is possible. I want to inspire those who feel like giving up, but don’t! Anything is possible if you want it bad enough. That is what is pushing me in this creative journey of mine.
