Hi Amobi , thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Frugal Athlete was birthed by putting a spin on getting called cheap by teammates and friends. Frugal is taking ownership in being efficient with your money while cheap is what it means being low priced. When it comes to financial literacy as it pertains to athletes I wanted to create a name that spoke to what it meant. That’s how A Frugal Athlete was born.

I’m a first generation Nigerian American from California. 12 year professional soccer veteran who has transitioned into an athlete entrepreneur + creator. Started several businesses including Frugal Athlete and Serve Consulting. Frugal Athlete is an online financial media platform that helps athletes make, manage, and multiply their money through financial education and athlete empowerment while Serve Consulting is a boutique business management company that helps athletes and brand monetize their vision.
I’m proud of helping athletes, individuals, and brands understand how to utilize their leverage and go from idea to execution.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
You can do it all yourself
That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Just like in sports you will only go as far as your team. I had to learn how to delegate to elevate and put my trust in team members to help me achieve my goals.

I met Adrian Camargo by cold out reach on Instagram. I put it on my instagram stories that I was looking for a COO type of person to help me stay organized and we ended up meeting for lunch and immediately hit it off.
