We were lucky to catch up with Ammy And Hien recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ammy and Hien, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
We genuinely love showing our couples how much we appreciate them. It really is such a privilege that people allow us this intimate window into their lives and trust us with documenting it. That’s something we never take lightly.
We are no strangers to physical gifts. Sometimes it’s a handmade card, a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies (we’ve been working on perfecting the recipe!), or even some organic produce from our garden. We’re always trying to show we care, in little ways.
But honestly, what seems to matter most to our couples isn’t a physical gift at all. It’s the way we care for them and show up with heart and professionalism. Things like responding to emails quickly, being warm and friendly with their loved ones, and just going above and beyond to make sure they feel seen and supported.
One time, a bride came up to me (Ammy) and said, “This is kind of weird, but… do you have a clean pair of socks you can spare?” She had forgotten to pack some to change into her sneakers for the reception. And I just lit up, because yes! I 100% had a clean pair of emergency socks in my wedding kit! I always pack them just in case, and this was the first time they were actually needed. She was so grateful, and later even mentioned it in her review of us online.
At the end of the day, our biggest gift to our clients is the feeling that they’re in good hands. That we’ve got their back (or feet, lol) no matter what. That kind of care sticks with people. And for us, that’s the most important thing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before we became wedding photographers, we were just a couple planning our own wedding. Like many couples, finding the right photographer was our number one priority. But to our surprise, it was much harder than we expected. We spent hours researching, scrolling through portfolios, and trying to find someone who felt like the right fit. In that process, we noticed a gap in our area. There weren’t many teams offering truly service-forward photography, especially as a duo who could bring both technical skill and heart into the experience.
At the time, Hien had been a hobby photographer for over a decade. He had done everything from senior portraits to baby showers for family friends, and already had some starter gear we could use. We began by doing free couples sessions for friends, experimenting and learning as we went. Pretty soon, things snowballed. I (Ammy) transitioned from a career in the non-profit sector to going full-time with photography just seven months after we officially started the business. Not long after, Hien followed suit! And that’s when we officially became the team we are today.
What truly convinced us this was worth pursuing was the emotional impact we saw in people’s lives. Every time we delivered a gallery and witnessed the reactions: the joy, the tears, the way people cherished those images, even years later.. we knew we were doing something that mattered.
We’re most proud of how much heart we pour into our service. We lead with empathy and ethics, and we’re grateful that it shows, not just in the photos, but in the way people talk about their experience with us.
Ironically, our own wedding photography experience wasn’t great. But that only deepened our understanding of why this work is so important and taught us the true value of being seen. People often say, “it’s not that deep” when it comes to creative work, but the truth is, we’ve photographed some of the last “good photos” people have of their loved ones. Last memories of their grandparents, parents, even some friends. We’re documenting moments in time that will be shared for generations.
It’s a huge responsibility, and one we don’t take lightly, even though we’re always cracking jokes and making it fun along the way.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
We definitely have a mission, and we know it’s one that will never fully be “finished.” As long as there are people who wish to feel cared for, seen, and like themselves in front of the camera, we’ll be here, documenting memories with heart and intention.
We always tell people that we’re “experience-first”, “aesthetics-second” photographers. That doesn’t mean the photos aren’t beautiful (they are!), but the emotional experience of being photographed, the way someone feels in their own skin, surrounded by people they love.. is what drives everything we do.
That approach might not be for everyone, and that’s okay. There’s no one “right” way to experience your wedding day or any other milestone worth capturing. But for us, creating an A+ experience for our clients will always be the core of our creative purpose.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We’re not considered “big” on the ’gram by any means. We can’t really give advice on how to go viral, gain thousands of followers, or beat the cursed algorithm (lol). But social media did play a huge role in building our business and community.
In the early years, most of our bookings came through Instagram. Even when we didn’t have a large portfolio, we showed up consistently, posting about the work we were proud of and sharing more about ourselves and the heart behind the lens. It resonated with people. So we focused on building connection and community, not follower count.
One thing we always abide by with social media is this: document, don’t create. Document real things. Don’t try to curate a persona or force a version of yourself that isn’t true. Just share honestly. It’ll resonate with someone. And even if it lands with just one person, and that one person books with you… then you’ve done social media right as a business!
These days, we admittedly aren’t as active as we once were (we’re out here enjoying the fruits of our labor more, lol), but whenever we do show up, our community is right there with us. And we’re eternally grateful for that.
