We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ammar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ammar below.
Ammar, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Garden Kid came naturally. I’ve always been passionate about fashion and dreamed of starting a clothing brand — I just didn’t think it was realistic at the time. But eventually, I realized the only thing standing between where I was and where I wanted to be was my mindset. Once I flipped that switch, I knew it was time to go all in.
I’d been reselling sneakers and clothes for a while, and I started to notice a shift — some of my favorite brands were losing their spark. The quality wasn’t the same, and the designs felt repetitive and uninspired. Season after season, it seemed like brands were playing it safe with dull colors and weaker execution. I kept thinking, “I could do this better.”
Eventually, I stopped brushing that off as a random thought and started seeing it as a calling. I dove into research, learned what it would take to build a brand from scratch, and officially launched Garden Kid in December 2022. We hosted our first drop with a launch event and fashion show in October 2023.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I created Garden Kid to solve two problems I was seeing in the industry: First, quality was falling off as brands scaled. Second, we were losing color — everything started feeling too monochrome and lifeless. A lot of streetwear felt like it had lost its soul
Because of this, I made it a point to always use high quality, eco friendly materials while using intricate stitching and high quality manufacturing in all my garments.
Color is a big part of my inspiration. Nature, flowers, and gardens remind me that clothing can be expressive and alive. That’s where the name Garden Kid comes from. I’ve been working with shades like lilac purple, sky blue, and rich cream — soft but strong tones that give the garments a unique feel. And that’s just the beginning. There’s a whole world of color and feeling I plan to bring in.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I feel as though I have a unique perspective on cultivating a social media following because I am in the midst of building it, not at the top of the mountain sitting on thousands or millions of followers. Because of that, I am able to constantly learn what it takes to keep people engaged and how to grow.
One of the biggest lessons has been about momentum. Once you have it, you have to protect it. That’s where consistency comes in — and yeah, I still struggle with that at times, but I’m improving.
The other thing is world building with authenticity. You have to sell an experience, not just a garment. I am constantly trying to build the Garden Kid “world”, where it seems like everything is cohesive and owning a Garden Kid garment makes you feel like you are a part of something. And with fun, lighthearted posts that don’t always try to shove an advertisement in your face or call for a sale, I am able to keep it authentic and soulful.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most stressful and hardest things I had to do was throw the Garden Kid launch event and fashion show. It took months and months of constant planning and work while dealing with manufacturer timelines. At the time, I was screen printing all the designs by hand, the factory was just building our garments for us. I had to book the venue for the event well in advance and I lined it up with the manufacturing timeline to give me 1 week of breathing room to screen print all the shirts. With a delay in the garment dyeing process, the shirts didn’t arrive til the night before the event. What ended up happening is me, business partner at the time, and some of my friends basically pulled an all nighter screen printing the shirts, slept for a couple hours in the morning, went to the venue to set it up and do model runway practice, came back home and printed the rest of the shirts, and finally took them to the event. We ended up being late to our own event by a little bit, but somehow with insane focus and being on constant go mode, figure it out and had an amazing fashion show and event.
