Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amma Ash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Amma thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
In the year 2023, I experienced a “defining” moment that shifted my perspective and brought about a profound realization: I am more important than the tasks and obligations that fill my life. This revelation allowed me to prioritize my well-being and personal growth above all else. In our fast-paced and demanding world, it is easy to get caught up in the never-ending to-do lists and responsibilities that consume our time and energy. We often prioritize external achievements and the completion of tasks, neglecting our own needs and self-care in the process. However, my defining moment in 2023 served as a wake-up call, reminding me that my well-being and happiness should always come first.
This realization prompted me to reevaluate my priorities and make self-care a non-negotiable aspect of my daily life. I began to carve out dedicated time for activities that nourish my mind, body, and soul. Whether taking myself on dates, administrating reiki on myself, pursuing creative hobbies, or simply taking moments of solitude and reflection, I now know inner-stand the importance of nurturing myself. By recognizing my worth and prioritizing self-care, I have experienced a profound shift in my overall well-being. I have become more present, grounded, and fulfilled in all aspects of my life. I am free. As I continue to take care of myself and prioritize my own needs, I am better equipped to handle the challenges and responsibilities that come my way.
I’ll conclude with this, “you are more important than the tasks and obligations that you must complete. I love you.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello beautiful people! My name is Camalla, but you can call me Amma. I wear many hats and have various roles in my life. To give you a glimpse, I am a mother to five inspirational children, a wife to my supportive husband, a Reiki Master Teacher, a Sound Healing Practitioner, a Homeschool Director, a Storytelling Videographer, a Holistic Birth Doula, and the Founder of Be Free, Be Fly Spiritual Ministry.
I’m not particularly eager to label myself a serial entrepreneur because I aim not to accumulate as many titles as possible. Instead, my goal is to embody the change I wish to see. If I notice a lack of change in a particular field within my community, I don’t spend time searching for someone else to bring about that change. Instead, I invest my time in learning and becoming that person.
I took an online marketing course a year ago because I couldn’t afford to hire a marketing specialist. My objective was to facilitate the growth of my businesses without incurring exorbitant expenses. I invested in an app called Canva and a few other apps to help me create high-quality flyers and videos. Unbeknownst to me, this event marked the beginning of my journey into the world of videography. Once I set my mind on something, I don’t let any obstacles hinder my progress.
This mindset led to the creation of Be Free, Be Fly Spiritual Ministry. I have a deep belief in numerology and angel numbers. Let me share a story with you about February 22nd, 2022. It was a significant date, known as a powerful portal. In numerology, the number 2 represents patience, attentiveness, partnership, healing, building, and cooperation. As an angel number, 2/22/22 symbolizes divine timing and serves as a reminder that every dream requires patience, cooperation, and hard work. On 2/22/22, I was invited to be a vendor at an event. The energy and sense of community that filled the room left me in awe. Recognizing the importance of the date, I brought my manifestation journal to capture my thoughts and feelings throughout the event. I began by jotting down keywords that described how I felt at that moment – free, fly, empowered, and divine. Above all, I felt a strong sense of community. Inspired, I expressed my desire to host monthly events that would provide healing, love, freedom, and a sense of belonging. I continued to envision this healing event, and the next day, during a conversation with someone, we came up with the name “Be Free, Be Fly.” I was ecstatic because the name encompassed all the emotions I experienced on 2/22/22.
On April 30, 2022, I organized my very first Be Free, Be Fly healing event. It was a remarkable gathering with local vendors, healing speakers, and healers who provided various healing services, products, and food for our community. The turnout was incredible, and we engaged in activities such as yoga, sound healing, and a community panel. I organized these events once a month for a total of three months. During this time, I funded the events using my expenses. To ensure that the events were accessible to my target community, I only charged $15 for admission. Rather than feeling discouraged, I took a step back and sought guidance from my Ancestors, Guides, and the Universe to determine my next steps.
The name “Amma” holds great significance for me as it was the name of my late grandmother. When I was learning to speak, I couldn’t say “grandma,” so I called her “Amma.” This name became a family tradition, and little did I know at the time, it carried deep meanings in different cultures. In Indian culture, it means “mother,’ while in the Hispanic culture, it means “love.” I discovered these meanings shortly around my first Be Free, Be Fly event. I don’t possess any physical belongings that belonged to my Amma. However, after my inaugural Be Free, Be Fly event, I paid tribute to her by requesting that everyone refer to me as Amma from that moment onward. It is my way of ensuring that her name is remembered and cherished. My Amma was an extraordinary woman, and I owe who I am today to her unwavering love and nurturing guidance. My Amma was a preacher, and at her funeral, I made a promise to continue her legacy. Little did I know that this promise would evolve into my legacy.
One day, when I was feeling overwhelmed and crying, I felt my Amma’s presence comforting me. I knew that Be Free, Be Fly events were something that was needed, but I didn’t know how to move forward without causing financial strain. At that moment, I heard my Amma whisper to me, “Make it a ministry!” Instantly, my sorrows turned into tears of joy. I expressed my gratitude to my Amma and asked for her spiritual guidance along the way, as I was unsure where to start and wanted to avoid any missteps. From that day forward, opportunities seemed to fall into my lap. I knew it was my Amma opening doors for me spiritually. All the necessary paperwork to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization was provided to me, and during a nonprofit workshop at Indianapolis Public Central Library, I met Josh W. Abel. He was captivated by my story and generously offered to file my 501(c)(3) application pro bono. I knew this connection was orchestrated by my Amma, guiding me on this path.
Be Free Fly Spiritual Ministry is a platform that brings together a collective of healers from all walks of life, offering mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical wellness. We strongly believe that as human beings, we are all interconnected, and no one should be denied access to wellness based on hardship, ethnicity, or gender. Our vision is to create growth, healing, and local opportunities that have a positive impact on every community around the world. We are not affiliated with any specific religion but rather serve as a platform for individuals to come together and contribute their unique gifts toward creating healing solutions. By joining our platform, we can overcome feelings of isolation and collectively build our community. It serves as a central hub for healers and those seeking healing, fostering a sense of unity as our community grows. We have built a strong foundation that allows everyone to experience freedom and share their inner light with the world. In our eyes, a healer is someone who not only brings healing to the community through their passion but also creates long-lasting solutions that positively impact future generations. If you feel called to this work and wish to collaborate as part of a collective, we invite you to join us.
Our programs aim to address the challenges faced in our communities by creating effective and sustainable solutions. We strongly believe in the power of unity and collaboration as we work towards bringing about positive change on a global scale. One of our initiatives, the “Growing The Block Project,” empowers communities in food deserts in Indianapolis by helping them establish organic gardens in their backyards. Each block receives a strategic plan for suitable crops and cultivation techniques, enabling them to trade or sell their produce and promote sustainable food systems.
Our “How Can We Help” program previously held monthly and open to the public, aimed to foster self-awareness, emotional control, and mental clarity. At Cleo’s Bodega & Café, we explored various methods to achieve financial, spiritual, and physical well-being. Our dedicated healers graciously shared their expertise, resources, and techniques to empower our communities. We are currently revamping this program to better serve the unhoused community.
The Divine Timing Homeschool program provides a nurturing environment for children to learn at their own pace. Each day, we actively contribute to the growth of our “Be Free Be Fly Community Garden.” Engaging in gardening offers children a sense of responsibility as they care for the plants, ensuring they receive proper water and sunlight. It also teaches them about the life cycle of plants and fosters an understanding of nature’s processes. Additionally, gardening cultivates patience, which is beneficial for overall well-being, improved relationships, and success in future endeavors.
We greatly appreciate any support you can provide to our cause, whether it be through donations or sharing valuable resources. Your contribution will play a vital role in helping our community thrive, as we work towards a future that is characterized by improved health, financial freedom, and emotional balance. Together, we can create a brighter and more prosperous tomorrow for all.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson of learning that not everyone is for you is a powerful yet transformative realization that had a profound impact on my life. It’s a lesson that taught me the importance of discernment, boundaries, and self-worth. In life, I’ve encountered a wide range of people, each with their unique perspectives, values, and intentions. While some individuals aligned with my values and supported my growth, others did not resonate with me and hindered my progress. Recognizing this truth was challenging for me, as I naturally desired a connection. However, understanding that not everyone is meant to be part of my journey is a crucial step toward my personal growth and self-empowerment.
One of the key aspects of this lesson is discernment. Discernment involves the ability to recognize and differentiate between those who are genuinely supportive and those who may have ulterior motives or negative influences. It required me to trust my intuition and pay attention to the energy and actions of others. By honing my discernment skills, I started to make informed decisions about who I allow access to my energy and who I choose to distance myself from.
Setting boundaries is another important aspect of learning that not everyone is for you. Boundaries are essential for maintaining our emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It helped me establish healthy relationships and protect myself from toxic or draining interactions. When I recognized that someone was not aligned with my values or was detrimental to my growth, it was crucial to establish clear boundaries and limit their access to my energy. I reduced contact, ended relationships, and created distance to preserve my well-being. Inner-standing my intentions about a healthy relationship was established so that I knew how to navigate through creating boundaries.
Furthermore, learning that not everyone is for you taught me the value of self-worth. It reminded me that I deserve to be surrounded by people who uplift, support, and inspire me. Above all, I need to be in the company of individuals who have a deep love and appreciation for themselves. I have a clear inner-standing of what love truly means and how it manifests, and I am unwilling to settle for anything less. Furthermore, I have decided to refrain from engaging in debates with individuals who have demonstrated a lack of self-love. I believe that if someone is unable to love themselves wholeheartedly, they are incapable of offering me unconditional love. Valuing myself and my worth has created space for healthier and more long-lasting connections.
My spiritual life coach, Kierra The Goddess, shared a valuable message with me regarding the 33% rule created by Tai Lopez. According to this rule, 33% of our time should be spent with mentors, 33% with our peers, and 33% with individuals whom we can mentor and guide. This guideline has allowed me to categorize my relationships and determine the level of access I should give to each person. I have come to inner-stand that having a mentor in my life is crucial for my personal growth, as I am always seeking knowledge. However, I also recognize that my relationship with my mentor has its limitations. While I may desire to spend more time with my mentor due to my love for learning and the feeling of being loved through learning, I accept that there may be a necessary distance or boundary between us if my mentor is unable to learn from me. Often, we allow our egos to hinder our inner-standing of this lesson. I strive to ensure that my decisions and reactions are not driven by ego.
This rule has also helped me avoid taking things personally when interacting with energy leachers. I now inner-stand that my role may simply be to plant a seed within them and allow them to choose whether or not to nurture it. I no longer expect those I mentor to be there for me as peers, as I have established a clear inner-standing of where to place people in my life.
By having this inner-standing and clarity about the roles and boundaries of different individuals in my life, I have become better equipped to handle mistakes and not react impulsively. I have encountered numerous experiences that have taught me this valuable lesson, and although some of them may have been negative, I believe it is important not to overlook the wisdom gained from those encounters. I choose to forgive those who have crossed me, inner-standing that they too may have learned from their mistakes and transformed them into valuable lessons. My sincerest wish is for them to find nothing but the best in their journey and accept my departure as a decision to value my self-worth.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Every January, I make it a point to revisit a few books that serve as a reminder of my spiritual growth throughout the year. I would like to share three of these books with you, “Rest Is Resistance” by Tricia Hersey, “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, and “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Sucess” by Deepak Chopra. These books provide me with a deeper inner-standing of my spiritual journey. Each time I read them, I gain a fresh perspective based on my current mindset and level of growth. I recognize that true wealth lies not only in material possessions but also in spiritual abundance. By prioritizing my spiritual well-being, I can cultivate and sustain true wealth. I inner-stand that for my material wealth to increase, my spiritual well-being must take precedence.
Ermias Asghedom, also known as “Nipsey Hussle,” was a remarkable individual who made a significant impact on his community and beyond. He was not only a talented musician but also a visionary leader and entrepreneur. Nipsey Hussle’s dedication to revitalizing his community and empowering others is inspiring. One of the aspects that stood out about Nipsey Hussle was his commitment to self-improvement and personal growth. He inner-stood that to make a positive impact on his community, he had to continuously better himself. His interviews and speeches were filled with wisdom and knowledge, offering valuable insights on how to uplift oneself and create positive change.
Nipsey Hussle’s entrepreneurial mindset and business acumen were also evident in his endeavors. He believed in the power of ownership and economic empowerment as a means to uplift communities. Through his Marathon Clothing store and other business ventures, he sought to create opportunities and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
Furthermore, Nipsey Hussle’s activism and dedication to social justice were evident in his actions. He was deeply committed to addressing issues such as gun violence, police brutality, and systemic inequality. He used his platform and resources to advocate for change and create tangible solutions for his community. Although Nipsey Hussle’s life was tragically cut short, his legacy continues to inspire and motivate others to strive for greatness and make a positive impact. His teachings and example serve as a reminder of the importance of self-improvement, community empowerment, and social justice. We can all learn from his wisdom and continue his work in our communities. I am continuing the marathon with Be Free Be Fly Spiritual Ministry. How will you run your marathon journey?
