We were lucky to catch up with Amit Mishra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amit, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I was born in renowned Banaras Gharana (style) of Indian Classical Music family. I am the 13th generation guy who is still in music, and I had seen my great grandfather late pt shamta prasad mishra ji ( who got 2nd highest owner from Indian government which was padmbhushan) who use to play with great maestros of Indian classical music like pt ravi shankar ji, ustad vilayat khan Saheb, pt shiv kumar sharma ji etc in my childhood. I used to attend the concerts together with him when I was 6 only and Since then tabla was my 1st love. later I started to learn with my father pt kishor mishra ji and great legend late pt Sharda Sahai ji . I used to perform in small concert since I was 9 years old and the journey begins then only . I had performed in most of the places in India and abroad , even I had the privilege of
performing a concert in front
of the Indian Prime Minister Mr
Narendra Modi ji and King
Philippe of Belgium.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born on October 1985 in varanasi, India. I had learned classical vocal also for first 5 years with my grandfather late pt Narayan das Mishra ji.
Later i developed a keen interest in tabla playing and started learning it under the guidance of my father, Pt. Kishor Kumar Mishra ji. Samta Prasad Mishra Ji . then I received advanced instruction from my Guru (teacher), the internationally acclaimed late Pt. Sharda Sahai Ji (a direct descendant of Pt. Ram Sahai ji, the founder of the Banaras Gharana ) .
I had accompanied some of the finest artists of Indian classical music like: Vidushi Girija Devi ji, Pt.Birju Maharaj ji, Smt Sitara Devi ji, vidushi Sonal Mansingh ji, Pt. Ajay Pohankar ji, Pt. Channu lal Mishra ji, Smt Sunaina Hajarilal ji to name a few.
