We were lucky to catch up with Amira Hussein recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amira, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Health is the most valuable asset one can have. It’s often not thought about until it’s lost.. Once gone, it’s the only thing one can think about, and hope to have back. There is no quality of life without it.
I lived most of my life with multiple chronic health issues; some quite debilitating. I spent years trying to heal myself, and after much trial and error, was able to heal my most serious and limiting conditions. It became my mission to help others regain their health, by sharing my knowledge and educating and empowering others to take control of their health and gain back their quality of life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I got into the wellness field initially as someone who was trying to heal themselves in a natural way. After decades of research, experimentation of multiple healing modalities, both conventional and holistic, I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to heal myself. I could not rely on practitioners, medications, supplements, or a particular diet. I am not saying none of these things can’t help; they can. But for chronic, long standing conditions, there is often a deeper layer of healing that must take place. I came to find out that the mind-body connection was the missing piece. Without addressing that, true healing cannot occur. It wasn’t until I started a serious meditation practice, that I saw real results and eventually healed myself of lifelong debilitating health issues.
I started my career in the wellness business as a health coach, helping clients refine their diets, and change certain lifestyle habits to improve their issues. . I noticed a lot of my clients were coming to me for weight loss, and while that wasn’t my focus, I wanted to offer a solution.
While searching for solutions for my own loss of muscle tone (due to years of being unable to workout regularly because of health issues) I stumbled upon a technology that combined electromagnetic energy and radio frequency, to tone the body, and assist in fat loss and skin tightening. I was so impressed with my own personal results, I decided to add it to my practice, and opened up my first wellness studio, Shape Lounge, in Pasadena, CA. My vision was to create a one stop shop for my clients to get their health coaching and body treatments done in one place, while they relax. I’ve since added red light therapy, vibration plate therapy and infrared sauna services. These treatments work synergistically, to provide maximum health benefits, and aesthetically pleasing results, in a safe and time efficient manner.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Anyone who has suffered from chronic illness knows the strength and resilience it takes to keep going. Life is difficult as it is, let alone having to do life while in physical discomfort/pain on a regular basis. It makes things that much harder, but it also teaches you what you’re made of, and how much you really want this life! I’ve never allowed my own personal health issues to take away my love for life. I’ve always held onto faith, knowing that my suffering was for a greater cause.
My purpose and passion is very clear. I care deeply about others and their well being. I want everyone to enjoy the best health and quality of life possible. We have the power within ourselves to heal, and I will continue to share my story and the tools gained throughout my healing journey, to help, give hope, and hopefully inspire others to heal themselves too!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I worked in education for many years; as a teacher and counselor. And while I loved the children I worked with, I always knew deep down, that career wasn’t my true passion. I think it’s a wonderful career, and I’m glad to have had the experience, but I am so grateful to be serving in the health and wellness space. It’s personal to me. This is my true passion and always has been. I feel at home finally. It truly never feels like work!
