We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amir Yassai. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amir below.
Alright, Amir thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I’ve been a creative my whole life and my dad was a very traditional business owner with a great company and I lived in his shadow, I wanted to be my own person. I’ve always felt more alive on a stage or on camera than I did anywhere else. I’m happy as an artist now once I realized I can be a creative without necessarily monetizing it. I can just exist as a creative and contribute to society without making money. This capitalistic perspective that only art that has been sold has value is not okay. I used to wonder why I couldn’t be happy as a real estate agent or publicist (jobs I used to have), but then I realized something my destiny in my life is to share my gift my art my social media my perspective on the world and that’s not only important but it’s beautifully necessary.

Amir, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So to tell you how I got to be a content creator and TV producer you need to understand the journey. I was a real estate agent for years and learned how to sell myself and how to set up a successful brand centered around your likeness. Then I worked as a publicist for celebrities, such as Michael B. Jordan, Gwen Stefani, and Donald Glover. Working with these massive celebrities who have international reach I was able to understand how to market a person and how to get them in front of the correct brands. It was an easy transition from publicist to social media influencer on Instagram and TikTok I was able to grow and create a community of over 200,000 followers. By being my most authentic self online, I was able to create a safe space not only for me, but for my followers. I was able to monetize this as well as collaborating, and working with various brands as a way to continue monetizing my channels. I am all about using humor and authenticity as a way to de-stigmatize shame and create a safe space online. I want people to feel like they know me and I’m able to talk to them about their favorite shows and their favorite celebrity and to create a very casual fun and informative environment.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would’ve leaned on my peers as we were going up because as you get further on, especially in the entertainment industry, there is a lot of gatekeeping and people who are not gonna help you get further in your career are going to try to keep the resources to themselves. I want to create a resource where everyone can share in the entertainment industry, especially people of color and queer people who don’t have as many opportunities as some of the white counterparts..

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being a voice and and a face for someone who might feel alone in a way where I didn’t have that when I was in the closet, so it’s amazing to be an inspiration to people online and to have them message me from around the world saying they feel seen that’s the best thing I can get from being a creative
