We were lucky to catch up with Amir Kenyi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amir , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects i’ve created would have to be the one I currently finished titled “Soaps N Suds”! This project is a response to my first Ep “In Tears”. This piece of work gives you a tour of a few of my situation-ships (post-breakup) that were so bittersweet letting the bitter side of things take control. This project means so much to me because it is made with pure vulnerability and honesty. I titled the EP “Soaps N Suds” because I thought that talking to new people would play a positive role in healing and pretty much washing away a past relationship… as one does. The first song on my EP (Because Of You) is a song that talks about missing a previous relationship while realizing that this person will never come back. The second song (Rent Is Due) is a personal favorite. It’s gives you an insight to the beginning of a situation-ship that took a turn within an extremely short period of time but for some reason you can’t stop thinking about them. The third track on the project (Sweet Talk) is a song about a spark with someone who had a good way with words. This spark feels so right, you simply just can’t refuse it. The forth song on the EP (Open Your Eyes) is a message to a specific person that pretty much seduces them into thinking that we belong together. The last track on the project (Sunday Lovin’) is a contradiction of the 2 previous songs. Most situation-ships don’t really last and this song dives into wanting to escape that situation-ship stage. “Soaps N Suds” is set to be released March 14th, 2025.
Amir , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an independent recording artist based in Los Angeles, CA. I started in the entertainment industry when I was just 9 years old. I write, produce, and engineer my own music. I have my own label (MirLay Records) that allows me to release my music to the world. Being an indie artist alone sets me apart from others. I have a sultry and sweet tone that uses fundamentals of R&B/jazz at the core of my voice. Being able to release my music for the first time in 2023 was such a blessing. Establishing my sound and who I am as an artist was a goal that I am proud to say I accomplished in 2023.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have so many goals that I want to achieve. One of the main goals that I plan on achieving is getting my music out there more and getting more recognition as an artist. My long term goals are getting signed to a record label, releasing my debut album, and going on a world tour. Those have been the chief goals driving my creative journey.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is hearing how people perceive my music. Art can be interpreted and impactful in so many different ways. That’s the beauty of what I do. Being able to see and hear how others interpret my music is apart of the sole reason why I do what I do. How I feel when creating the music could be completely different than the people listening to it.
