We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amir Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amir, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In my opinion I take a risk every day trying to chase my dreams doing YouTube and being a content creator. I basically take a chance on myself by believing in myself by trying to create content every single day rather it’s on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok. I’m taking a chance on making this a full time job for myself so I can quit my job and fully do what I love to do and by also seeing the long term goal for myself and my family down the road. I am trying to give everything I have to make sure my family and myself are set for life and that’s a big risk in my opinion because I am trying to go outside of the normal in my family and do something that I know in the long run will be very beneficial for all of us. I take a risk by staying up for almost 24 hours straight due to the fact in that 24 hour span I edit late I still have to go to work in the morning than I have to record a new video for YouTube then I have to make content for TikTok and instagram and If I don’t edit my own YouTube video I am either editing someone’s music video or pictures from a photoshoot. I take this risk every single day on myself believing that one day ima be one of the best YouTubers or content creators in Baltimore and around the world. I make sacrifices every week so I can reach my goal. I can’t hang with friends a lot of the time. I can’t go out and just have fun because I want to reach my goal so badly that I just can’t do the same thing like the rest of my friends/piers but I know down the Line its going to be worth it.

Amir, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A few things about me is that I love to travel to different cities and states. I love to try new things in life. I am an editor, videographer, photographer, content creator, Influncer, and a Youtuber. I started youtube 2 years ago around March or April. What really got me into YouTube was when I saw a few videos on YouTube that caught my attention and one day I told myself I can do exactly what they are doing or even better than some other YouTubers. But another person that really got me into YouTube was a youtuber named DDG I use to watch his videos every single day he inspired me the most to do YouTube and live the lifestyle I want to live and it’s not even just the lifestyle it’s about trying to give my mom whatever she wants or really my family he inspired me to really work hard doing YouTube and inspire so many other people. The main things that set me apart from others is that there were only a few YouTubers in Baltimore that I saw do YouTube but not to many of them do it now but ever since I’ve done Youtube there have been more and more people in Baltimore that are starting there YouTube careers, people have even told me I inspired them to even want to do YouTube and just knowing that makes me feel good. I know not everyone that is starting their YouTube careers is because of me but I’m just glad I inspire a few people to even want to do YouTube. Another thing that separates me from other people is my work ethic. I try to push out 2-4 YouTube videos a week while still making instagram and TikTok content every single day and I’m still working a full time job 5 days a week. I don’t know too many people who are working just as hard as me. The thing I am most proud of is coming this far in my career on YouTube. I never thought I would hit 1,000+ subscribers on YouTube. That achievement made me feel great that small achievement really makes a difference. The main thing I want other people to know is that myself and others are starting a wave in Baltimore with people starting to do YouTube now. This is something positive for others and fun when you do it. Once other factors come into play Baltimore is going to be one of the cities where you hear people doing Youtube and making it a career for themselves.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My resilience that I can share is that at a point of time when I was just starting YouTube I was averaging about 50-105 views and I was averaging that amount of views for a while on YouTube and sometimes I hit even lower numbers on YouTube. I kept thinking if my content was good enough or just entertaining in general. This lasted a few months and I started to think if I should still continue to do YouTube. I had wanted to quit for some days. I just thought I wasn’t good enough to keep doing what i’m doing because the views were really low to me and I kept watching some of my other YouTube friends get crazy amounts of views on YouTube and I was wondering what I was doing wrong. Why am I not doing the same for my videos? Why am I not having people subscribe to my channel? For days I was really down because I couldn’t understand why my views weren’t going up more and more like my friends. Until one day a good friend that does YouTube told me to stop working about the numbers, stop looking at other peoples channels and comparing myself to them instead that person told me to just stay focus and continue to keep uploading videos because one day I will get 1,000+ subscribers and views once the person told me that I started to keep uploading videos on YouTube. After a while my views were starting to hit thousands and thousands of views. I kept believing in myself more and more each day. I didn’t give up no matter the views or subscribers. I just kept going and remembered why and who I do YouTube for again. Just almost at the end of the summer I hit a lot of my goals and I haven’t looked back or doubted myself ever again since that day.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A particular goal that drives me is to be a full time content creator on all platforms especially on Youtube. I am very close to being monetized on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. But that will be just the start. My other goals are going to come down the line in the future for me once I make it bigger than what I am now and I’m not going to stop until I achieve those goals.
