We recently connected with Aminata Fofanah and have shared our conversation below.
Aminata, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Amjul was started with the mission to fill a void, lack of inclusion and diversity in the food and beverage CPG industry
Aminata, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! My name is Aminata Fofanah and I am the founder of Amjul , a vegan small batch West African Spice and Marinade brand with the mission to introduce palate satisfying African flavors to your palate.
Recently launching in July 2022, we successfully have sold 300+ jars via Shopify , and landed partnership with our first retail store PopUpGrocer .
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Amjul got started after I noticed a lack of inclusion of African food and beverage brands on the shelves. I currently work with a co manufacturer that helps produce my curated recipe in large batches. So far , manufacturing has been fun but tricky in assuring that your recipe is as close to the original as possible.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a women, minority owned brand , I am in a category that is often underrepresented in most spaces . After launching , a moment of resilience was rejection from retail stores that I desired killed my spirit . Despite the adversities , I kept pushing and officially launched in a dream retailer .months later
