We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amiana Patterson-woods a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Amiana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

I believe what dictates success is the ability to feel like you’ve fallen countless times but you continuously make the choice to get back up one more time.

Success just doesn’t happen especially overnight. Being successful is a marathon of a journey. I’ve learned that this journey doesn’t come easy but does garner experience, wisdom, knowledge, and revamping until the “formula” works.

Being on social media it’s easy to see an overnight success and become accustomed to wanting to be a part of the “popcorn culture”. But, the reality is very few overnight successes can or will maintain longevity. I’ve had to get back to my own reality and accept that the longevity that I desire for myself and my lineage will only come from putting in the work consistently, efficiently, and effectively. What’s the saying? Nothing worth having comes easy. That’s a motto I keep at the forefront.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am the owner and founder of Pampered Luxe Skincare. Pampered Luxe is a vegan and cruelty free luxury skincare line.

Pampered Luxe was founded due to my own desire to effectively treat my skin without steroids. Throughout my life I’ve dealt with eczema and the only treatment for this was countless prescriptions of steroidal creams that would only offer a temporary remedy.

Our skin is the biggest organ on our bodies and I was personally uncomfortable with the thought of feeding my skin steroids for the rest of my life. I didn’t want a remedy, I wanted a solution. This desire sent me down a path I never knew would turn into a luxury skincare line that would not only provide me with a solution but others as well along their skincare ventures.

Pampered Luxe currently offers a variety of solution based products for any skin type concerns. For example, our Turmeric Face & Body scrub is tailor made for the concerns of uneven skin tones, skin brightening, and rough skin although it is suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

Our Aloe Silk Hydration Face Moisturizer is tailor made for individuals looking for a solution to skin hydration and rejuvenation. The lightweight yet deeply nourishing formula works to restore skin’s moisture balance, improve elasticity, and visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

One of our best selling products would be our velvety whipped body butters. Our body butters are specifically for those seeking to elevate their body care routine who desires deep hydration without a greasy residue. The chefs kiss to our body butters are the fragrances that accompany. Our fragrances are inspired by natures scents, that guarantees to captivate and linger for a lasting sense of elegance. Sovereign, Majestic, and Regal are dedicated to the Kings in our lives, while Opulent Bloom, Reign, Cloud Nine, and Velvet Bliss cater to the Queens in our lives.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

All our offered products are hand manufactured ensuring the utmost quality! Self manufacturing was not necessarily in my cards but the desire to, again garner a solution for my own skin concerns, this has became the route taken.

I would say the lessons I have learned along the way is all based around formulation and using the correct products to deliver undeniable results. This comes with a lot of trial and errors. For example, although coconut oil, argan oil, and jojoba oil are all proven to be good for the skin and body, there’s a difference between them all and depending on the product which one would effectively work the best in the formula.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?

I think the best marketing experiences I’ve had to date is finding ways to get my products in the hands of celebrities. I am a firm believer that word of mouth is still the most effective marketing strategy. When there’s a celebrity passing through St. Louis I try my best to gift them with Pampered Luxe in hopes that they absolutely love my products and put me in front of a larger audience base.

I have gifted DL Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer, Monica, and Christian Keyes to name a few. I would say the odds of being able to get close enough to these types of people have always been a daring challenge.

But, when you believe that much in what you’re doing and what you offer you’re willing to accept that challenge continuously!

My marathon may not be tied to being put in front of a large audience via celebrity so I do throughly enjoy meeting a variety of people to gift samples as well. The in person experience will always be top tier, to not only put my products in hands but to build personal rapport and trust with those who will be part of The Pampered Tribe!
