Amelia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Five years ago, I got sick. I could have very easily have lost my life. I was having a hard time at my full time job. My health was not helping. I was in my mid 40’s and never had serious health problems before. Not long after this happened, I became pregnant at 45. A few months into my pregnancy, my physical health was suffering and I decided to leave my job. I’ve always been a big crafter and crocheter. My kids and I always made homemade gifts at Christmas and other holidays. Once the little guy arrived in the world, I decided to start into crocheting again. Then when he turned one, my husband got me a Cricut and I started crafting more. I decided then to start doing it part time to make some money while I was at home. I’m still on a part time basis but I would like to transition more to a full time role.

Amelia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a 50 year old stay at home mom. I have 18 year old twins and a 4 year old, as well as, 2 bonus children ages 21 and 19. When I was pregnant with my youngest, my husband and I decided that me being a stay at home mom was in our best interest. My husband is a first responder and I feel blessed to be able to be home. I love to craft and crochet and spend a lot of time doing those things. My husband suggested that I start doing crafts and crocheting and selling online. He bought me a Cricut for my birthday and I started crafting. I very much enjoy doing these things and my love of crocheting has got me through the Covid years with an infant. I love learning new crafts and new patterns. I have a Facebook page and an Etsy page to sell my wares. I make signs of various shapes and sizes. I enjoy sublimation and I sublimate on mugs, tumblers, mouse pads, towels, coasters and other things. I crochet scarves and hats. I also do kitchen towels, dish cloths, potholders/trivets, bowl cozies and more. I also take on personalized work and have done a huge sign and guest gifts for a friends wedding, as well as other signs and crafts. I’m very proud of what I can do and what I am learning on a daily basis. I try to the best of my ability to make what my customers request from me and make sure it’s exactly what they want.

Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2018 I became seriously ill and almost died. I was diagnosed with 4 pulmonary embolism. Three in my right lung and 1 in my left. I spent a week in the hospital and it was the scariest time of my life. My boyfriend (now husband) took wonderful care of me. Nine months later, I was 45 and pregnant. Unfortunately, my health was already suffering and being pregnant didn’t help. I talked with my husband and we decided that I should become a stay at home mom. I currently have a beautiful, healthy, four year old boy who keeps me on my toes. That’s when my husband and I talked and he said that I should do my crafts from home and sell them. I’ve poured as much as myself as possible into my little home business, to make myself happy and to make others happy with what I make.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love being able to do what I want to do, how and when I want to do it. I love hearing how happy people are with their product and how much they love it. That is the most rewarding to me.
