Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amelia Felix. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amelia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I realized I wanted to pursue my passion professionally was around the time I started learning to make myself own beats. I realized how powerful music is and how it impacts society as whole. You can do so much and convey good messages to society and I think in our world that is very needed right now.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
From a young age I always gravitated towards music. It is one of the things that brought me peace and grounded me. Definitely was something I could always go to. Therefore as I got older I started to have to branch out and network to find producers, engineers and other like- minded people I could collaborate with to better help me take my music to the next step. And most importantly grow my sound. In Houston we all know our music culture is not exactly what I bring to the table. I have dabbled in many sounds such as rnb, and pop. Finding my niche was kinda difficult for me I didn’t see other women much like me to look up to . Unless they were already world renowned artist. This is another reason why I continuously strive for success in this industry. I want girls to be able to have someone they can look up to who is more than one thing. And whom is more complex then one sound or style.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Be open minded and respect that every artist has a different perspective and reasoning behind there work! It’s easy to judge and be quick to disregard the importance or message of ones art if you simply don’t understand it.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Being a creative and utilizing my art to express my emotions means having to tap into situations, memories the good and the bad to be able to bring something authentic and meaningful to the table. And yes music allows me to process emotions in a efficient way , however it can be difficult to reflect on things you wish you could forget.
