Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amelia Candelaria. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amelia, thanks for joining us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best investment was professional commercial headshots I got done by a local photographer. They landed me my first national commercial and highest paying gig to this day.
My worst investment was, and this is going to be controversial but NYFW was definitely the worst. I understand the first or second time is really just networking and building yourself. However after that it’s just you wasting money to go to a 10 minute audition and never get a call back. So if doing anything fashion week definitely do virtual or invitational castings.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So my name is Amelia, but I often go by Millie. I currently reside in Cleveland Ohio, but I am originally from Pennsylvania.
I moved here about nine years ago in the of middle high school. Being a Creative was not my first choice. Actually, my first love was ballet and journalism. I went to a journalism school/camp back in Philadelphia in 2010. I had set plans that when I graduated high school I would attend either Syracuse or NYU with a major in journalism and a minor in dance.
After moving here, my interests kinda shifted. I still kept the journalism, but went towards more sports broadcasting because I am a really big football fan. as I was going through college, I realize it wasn’t for me so I decided to just stop attending and explore other things at the time. I got into modeling through a shoot a local photographer hosted and afterwards I noticed I my confidence and attitude was way better. So I kept doing more and it made me realize this what I was meant to do.
I am honestly proud of my growth from then until now and my ability to adapt, and versify myself. I believe that’s what makes me “different”. I have expanded modeling to acting, creative directing, casting, and content creation. I am not just limiting myself to just one niche.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
It sounds cool and innovative but I am honestly still learning about it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the finish product and the intake of dream jobs that could from it. That is always rewarding to work with one of your favorite brands.
