We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful AMÉLIA.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with AMÉLIA. below.
AMÉLIA., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I moved to the United States to attend Berklee College of Music when I was only 18. Since I was 15, I knew I wanted to move to the U.S. to pursue my dream career as a singer-songwriter and a composer for film and TV. I was fortunate to complete a pre-college conservatory program from the age of 5 until I graduated from high school, which made it clear to me—even as a child—that music was the only path I wanted to follow. I never envisioned myself doing anything else, no matter the cost. Despite loving France with my whole heart, I knew I could only get the music education of my dreams by moving overseas. And it changed my life.
Sometimes, out of curiosity, I wonder what my life might look like if I had chosen a different path—but every time I try to picture it, my mind goes blank. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’d be very good at anything else. Music has always been the answer, and I consider myself lucky to have been so certain about my dreams from such a young age. It helped me center my life early on.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is AMÉLIA. I’m a 24-year-old French singer-songwriter, composer for film and TV, pianist, and flutist based in Los Angeles, CA. Deeply inspired by film scores, pop, classical, and jazz, I arrange and direct all of my live productions, performing my original songs, film scores, and compositions. As a recording artist, performer, and multi-instrumentalist, I am dedicated to changing the world through art.
My passion for collaboration fuels my vision of writing for film and new media. From ages 5 to 18, I studied at the Conservatoire de Toulouse in its pre-college conservatory program for both music and dance, ultimately graduating in 2013 with a diploma in music theory, and in 2018 with diplomas in Flute Performance and Contemporary Dance.
My deep love for film scores and theme songs began at age 9. My storytelling—whether through songwriting or composition—is primarily influenced by composers like Alexandre Desplat and Thomas Newman, and artists such as Hozier and Ariana Grande. I’m currently completing my Master of Music in Screen Scoring at USC, studying under esteemed composers and orchestrators including Pete Anthony and Lolita Ritmanis.
I believe music is meant to be our ultimate life companion. Whether through concerts, movies, or any form of art, music is always there to help us navigate life. Being part of this industry—surrounded by some of the most inspiring artists I’ve ever met—continues to shape not only who I am, but the music I create. We often forget it, but music is a universal language that everyone speaks. Through sharing my art, I simply hope to offer a little hope and a fresh perspective to the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As a woman singer-songwriter and composer for film and TV, we are still fighting for representation—especially in large-scale productions. While things are slowly beginning to change, seeing the rise of composers like Laura Karpman, Natalie Holt, and so many others is truly inspiring for us, the new generation of composers. Witnessing their growth only fuels our drive to work hard and thrive as artists in the film and TV industry. One of my missions through music is to show the generations that follow me that yes—it is possible to succeed and flourish as a woman composer.
Art is the ultimate medium through which we can educate, share our values, and create a sense of international community. It allows us to connect with others—at concerts, events, or simply by sharing a love for music. As someone currently living far from her family, music has become my home away from home. No matter where I am in the world, it offers me a sense of warmth and belonging—and that’s exactly the feeling I hope to convey through the films I score.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I always get a bit emotional talking about this because I genuinely believe that we all have one person, aside from family, who drives our creative pursuits. For me, that person has always been Sir Alan Rickman.
His career, his values, and everything he contributed to the entertainment industry are things I hope to keep learning from as I build my own career. When his diaries were released, I treasured that book as a life mantra and a guideline. I learned so much from his thoughts, and it helped me grow into the young woman I am today. His love for theatre and cinema has inspired my own passion for movies and music, and I truly believe that his diaries carry invaluable human insights and values that everyone should reflect on as they navigate life.
