We recently connected with Ameerah Muhammad and have shared our conversation below.
Ameerah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am happier then I have ever been to build my business brick by brick. I have no regrets about starting Creole Goodies. I received a Masters Degree in Social Work in 2013 and immediately went to work for Child Protection in New Orleans for almost 10 years. It burned me out in the worst way and I no longer had joy in doing it anymore. but Baking is My first love but when I told my mom that I wanted to be a baker she said that was not a real career, fast forward 25 year later I am living in my purpose and could not be happier. I love to bake. Baking is LIFE.
Ameerah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a sorta retired social worker of 8 years working in Child Protection, working the New Orleans Metro Area. I have always baked since I was a kid but in 2021 I took a Luxury Cake decorating class with Julie With The Sweet Hustle and it literally change my entire life as that class was a game changer. I was just initially selling bread pudding to now having a home based bakery. I mostly do celebratory cakes and cup cakes. I offer a Mobile Cake and Sip Service and I just wrote and published my 1st Edition Children’s Dessert Cook Book, that I specifically wrote with the hopes of enhancing family connections through the joy of baking. My dessert cookbook is filled with easy to follow recipes and coloring/ activity pages. The coolest part is a create your own recipe section.. What sets me apart from other bakers I believe is that I give you a luxury experience at an affordable price. When A customer brings me a concept of what they want as a cake design I then put a Luxury spin to their unaffordable Idea and make it affordable which creates 1 less problem for the client. I am most proud of the Dessert Cookbook as I found a way to incorporate what I love with what I am good at. My end Goal is to become a house hold brand and doing cooking demos for kids of all ages to give them a glimpse of what their future self could be.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Currently I have Pivoted in the Dessert Business and have became a author of my 1st edition cookbook
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth so far but I am only a year in.
