We were lucky to catch up with Ameena Zeeba recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ameena, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Tiger Project !
Last year I while visiting the Indian forest in Bhandavgarah to see and photograph tigers I got a opportunity to do something and get involved in a conservation project. I immediately fell in love with majestic creature and started learning more of the difficulties that came to the tigers in their habitats and one of the emerging problem is dried up water holes. The water whole is very important for tigers because they often have to hydrate due to hot climate that surrounds them. Dried up water holes is leading the tigers to go into human zones of farming and that either came with tigers being killed by the locals purely of fear or one of locals loosing heir lives . Although everything that leads into a habitat loss can’t be resolved immediately I was grateful to Suyash Keshari who is a wonderful conservationist and runs his own safari and he also run his Indians first virtual safari. He included me and several others in his project to fill up two of the water holes in jungle which has dried up. He sucessfully was able to to fill with water holes with all the funding that we provided along with his own. This project truly touched my heart and made it all worth while when a tiger did come to the water hole drinking from it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A wildlife photographer emerged during covid and being from a background of Graphic Design made it easy for me to jump into creative side it happen to be the camera. Now more than ever the camera has brought me closer to wildlife and understanding the various conservation causes. Although taking care of my family kept me in a different zone working different jobs not relating to to wildlife but now I truly feel happy learning, educating about wildlife and conservation of different species through photography.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Learning and Educating as many people as possible about wildlife and nature conservation.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Most important lesson that I had to unlearn is that popularity is not everything. Popularity is limited but the impact you made even in one person is lifetime of change.
