Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ambrely Barrett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ambrely, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
It all started with a three-year-old, a tutu, a bag, and “ballerina shoes” and has been a part of my life since. As I grew, so did my love and passion for dance. I loved everything about it from the creative freedom, to the specific technical training.
It was at the age of twelve that I knew that I wanted to pursue the art of dance professionally. I wanted to perform on stage, teach, choreograph, and one day open my own studio.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the founder and director of Imagery In Motion, a dance studio Located in Argyle Texas.
I work as an instructor for our recreational program and act as artistic director for our nationally recognized competitive teams.
I have had the pleasure of assisting and teaching dance for 28 years, twelve of those years being at my own studio.
Established in 2011 Imagery in Motion is Argyle’s premier dance studio. We offers classes to dancer ages 2 years and up, beginner- pre professional levels in the following styles ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical/contemporary, musical theatre, dance and drill team prep, and strength training. We also provide adept classes for dancers with disabilites.
Our studio name is more than just a name. It was carefully and thoughtfully created to represent our dancers and the studio culture we wanted to provide; collective, inclusive, powerful.
Imagery In Motion is committed to providing a safe space for dancers of all ages and skill levels to learn and grow their love of dance.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our goal and mission for Imagery in Motion is to provide top technical training to dancers in a healthy supportive space.
I believe strongly in the importance of a positive dance studio culture and cultivating a supportive, welcoming and inclusive space for dancers and their families.
Kids of all ages need a creative and safe space to feel free of judgement and a place to grow into the best version if themselves. As a studio we strive to encourage our dancers to believe in themselves, dance with confidence, and let their light shine from within.
Our hopes for everyone that walks through our studio doors, is to feel at home and know that they are supported, appreciated, and they matter.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of owing a dance studio alongside teaching the art is having the ability to help kids chase their dreams and believe in themselves.
I have watched my students achieve their goals from learning how to do a leap, to highest-scoring acts at competitions, from being shy to becoming leaders as officers in their high school dance teams. Students have gone on to attend top college dance programs, become part of college and pro dance teams and dance in their dream professional dance companies. I have seen my students grow into incredible humans, with humble hearts, and have had the pleasure of working beside them as studio staff.
My favorite thing about teaching the art and owning a dance studio is how much joy and connection dance brings to us all.
