We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Zuniga a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I grew up in a small town near Omaha, NE. All I knew growing up was the landscape of corn and beans fields. When I was about 9 years old, I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Colorado with an aunt and uncle, and three of my cousins. We drove across Nebraska (which, if you have never done, you are not missing too much) and started our trip in Estes Park. I was so taken a back by the beauty of the mountains, the feel of a small town in the mountains and seeing a different way of life altogether. After Estes Park we drove down to Colorado Springs. I was even more memorized by the beauty. Oh, the fun I had on the train ride up to Pikes Peak. I couldn’t believe that it was the middle of summer and I was having a snowball fight with my cousins on top of a mountain!
About 11 years later I had a dear friend spend a year in Colorado. She was in Crested Butte and Telluride. I was able to see these beautiful places in the summer and winter, and my love for Colorado came to fruition. I then knew and fully understood the saying, “The mountains are calling, and I must go”. After a few more trips to Colorado, I knew I had to move.
On February 2, 2010 I packed up what I could fit into my 1998 Rav4 and made the journey to Colorado. For the first time, I was solo in a “new world” and I had to find my own way of navigating it. Those first few years were not always smooth sailing, but I knew there was a life waiting for me if I just stayed strong and true to myself.
Fast forward to 15 years later, I am now rooted in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado surrounded by an incredibly supportive community. I am married to a very loving, kind man. I opened up my very own small business called Wildflower Massage in the fall of 2023. I am so tremendously happy, and proud of myself that I made the huge risk to pack up and move to a new state and start a whole new life. It hasn’t always been easy, but I really believe that certain challenges are put in front of you to make you grow and be stronger. The universe always has a plan, you just have to believe and trust it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that a great reputation comes from consistent acts of kindness and respect. Whether it’s taking extra time to listen to a client’s concerts or offering helpful advice on self-care, my approach is always rooted in compassion. This creates a strong sense of community, where clients feel valued and supported in their wellness journeys. Through my dedication to nurturing each person with a truly attentive mindset, I’ve cultivated long-lasting relationships that contribute to a positive reputation in the community.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word-of-mouth has been a powerful tool in expanding my clientele because of the respect and care I give each person. When clients feel nurtured and cared for, they naturally recommend my services to others. In my massage therapy practice, I work tirelessly to build a relationship that is grounded in kindness, respect, and compassion. Every client I encounter is treated with the utmost care, ensuring they feel heard and understood from the moment they walk in. I prioritize creating a nurturing environment where clients can relax and heal, knowing they are in a space that honors their well-being.
