We were lucky to catch up with Amber Trueblood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
When my boys were little, I took two of them to a hip-hop dance class. (It wasn’t their forte.) However, when I got back home and watched the recording, I could see my reflection in the glass. I had a HUGE smile on my face. Huge. It hit me. I needed to do more things that made my face look like that. I started going to dance classes twice a week… for myself. I loved every moment of it. I also learned that magically, all my other responsibilities that had previously drained me simply didn’t bother me as much. Just two hours a week doing something just for myself allowed me to show up with more patience, calm, and joy in all other areas of my life. That moment, seeing my huge smile in the reflection, caused me to realize that there are many simple answers to improving the emotional wellbeing in people’s lives. As a licensed marriage and family therapist and mother to four sons, I always knew I wanted to create a business helping moms live happier, more fulfilling lives – because happier, healthier moms make happier healthier children. And families with happy and healthy mothers and children have healthier families, communities, and so on. My entire mission now is to share practical, simple and realistic strategies so that overwhelmed mothers can move from stressed to calm, from uncertain to confident, from resentful to proud, from depleted to excited and from exhausted to joyful.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a licensed therapist, best-selling author, speaker, and mother to four sons. I’m obsessed with books, salted dark chocolate, and helping moms release their guilt and anxiety. I’ve gone from a divorce, infertility diagnosis, bankruptcy, and traditional therapy practice to a two-decade relationship, four children, complete financial freedom, and serving thousands of women worldwide. I offer online courses, workshops, and work with private clients to reduce stress and overwhelm in their lives. My clients see the biggest transformations in their relationships, careers, and emotional wellbeing. Since the 2019 launch of my book Stretch Marks, I’ve contributed to articles in national publications including O: The Oprah Magazine; Bustle; People; Fatherly; Wedding Wire; MindBodyGreen; Good Housekeeping; Shondaland, VeryWell Mind, and Parade. I’ve also appeared as a featured expert on television stations such as E! Daily Pop, KTLA, CBS Morning News, and Good Day LA.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a writer, I’m a huge fan of learning and growing through reading books. It’s rare that a conversation with me doesn’t involve a book suggestion related to the topic we’re discussing. Even Uber drivers often end up receiving a book recommendation from me. For entrepreneurship, I love The One Thing by Gary Keller, Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, and Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss. For an abundant financial mindset I recommend Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Rich as F*ck by Amanda Frances, and Cracking the Millionaire Code by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen. And, for improving your communication skills (which are vital to management and entrepreneurship), I recommend How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie and The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. For entrepreneurial inspiration, I love Undaunted by Kara Golding, Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima, and my book Stretch Marks. For learning how to operate and manage your time and yourself, I love Do Less by Kate Northrup, Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg, PhD., and Anything You Want by Derek Sivers. (I could do this all day… )
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I recently began working with a business partner for a non-profit foundation we are creating together. I met Kristi in an online women’s entrepreneur group about two years ago. Something drew me to her and I knew I wanted to get to know her better. After a few months, I started a small group on an app called MarcoPolo where we’d share personal and professional stories, wins and challenges. It quickly became a safe and special place for us to vent, share, and celebrate. We listened, advised one another and consoled one another when needed. Kristi and I quickly learned that while our businesses looked very different on the outside, our missions were deeply and closely aligned. We wanted to solve the same problem in the world. We both want to help people raise their level of emotional intelligence and self-care, to raise and lift humanity so we can thrive as a whole. Recently, an opportunity presented itself and we knew this was it. This was the chance for us to work together and bring our unique talents to the same table, finally. It’s only been a few weeks into our work together yet we know one another so well, things are moving very quickly. There’s a long-established trust, mutual respect, and ability to communicate clearly that is priceless. We both have skills and approaches that are different, but our intent and goals are the same and I’m beyond excited about the lives we will impact through this foundation.
