We were lucky to catch up with Amber Trahan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
To show I appreciate my clients I love to do gift raffles and give out money vouchers. I sometimes add a free service to their appointments.
Amber, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Amber Trahan-Oluwaloju. I’m a licensed cosmetologist, photographer, and entrepreneur. I’m the founder of Amber Horizon Beauty and Photography Alliance. Growing up I enjoyed all things beauty and became a child prodigy at an early age. I managed to build clientele as teenager and started my career without even realizing it. I graduated at the top of my class at Remington College School Of Cosmetology, and I’m also a member of the National Technical Honor Society. My work consists of haircare, makeup, fashion, photography & more. I think what sets me apart is that I’m willing to work outside the salons and studios. I’m working behind the scenes for events, photoshoots, films, and with private clients. I willing travel any where I’m needed. What I’m most proud of is my long term client relationships I’ve manage to maintain over the years. With everything passing year my appreciation grows. That’s what motivates me to keep going. Owning your own business isn’t easy, but having something to hold on to is what keeps it going.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source for building new clientele has been my walk-in build board, which are my clients. I also often run a new clientele special ,which is really affecting.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I believe that almost every business had a pivot around the lockdown in 2020. Due to COVID it was almost impossible to see clients. My job is very physical so it really affected my career severely.
