We recently connected with Amber Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amber thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
I would not be where I am today if it was not for the influence of one of my college professors. He taught the art of photography and very grateful that I had the privilege to learn from him. Donnie had a wealth of knowledge that he loved to share. I remember being out on location shooting at Beaman Park in Nashville when he said “Sometimes the greatest photo is actually right behind you.” From that moment on, I learned to not just focus on what is right in front of me but make sure to take in a 360 view of the location. I have found that when I turn around, I actually find my favorite photo from that session. Sometimes there is an amazing background or the light is hitting just right that I would have missed if I did not just turn around. Donnie taught me to be open to what is around and take it all in. Still to this day, I hear his voice and remember to look behind me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a native Texan who developed a love for photography after getting a camera for my sixteenth birthday. My passion for photography kept growing so I went to Nossi College of Art in Nashville to further pursue photography as a career. I absolutely love being a photographer and creating those specials moments that can be cherished for a lifetime. During my time at Nossi, I really enjoyed portraits and weddings and knew that I wanted to specialize in that area of photography. I love to make my clients feel good about themselves and strive to make each session fun! I also love getting to tell stories while making my clients’ personalities shine in each and every photo!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing happy clients. There is nothing better than getting a text about how much they love their photos and how they have happy tears. It truly brightens my day knowing that I have snapped a moment in time that they will be able to cherish for a lifetime.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think valuing myself and my work has helped me build my reputation and helped me stay true to who I am. My goal is to give each client the same experience and same quality of work. In turn, happy clients lead to growing my business by word of mouth which I absolutely love! There is no greater compliment than word of mouth!
