Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Sasseen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Amber thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
My crazy story is: I started my business right smack in the middle of a world wide pandemic. When Coronavirus made headway into the news- spas of any sort and any industries alike were the first to close. The news stories were nerve wrecking, social media had the world divided, and nobody in my industry quite knew when we would be able to go back to work. I ended up being furloughed for three months with an abundance of time to really contemplate my next move. Returning to work was tough. I was in such close proximity to peoples faces and honestly it was just an uncomfortable time. My job essentially consists of conversation and human touch- two things we were being told by medical professionals to be careful of. At the time I worked in a large med spa and you can imagine the traffic in and out of there. I wanted to continue working, but I wanted to do it as safely as possible and with control of who I was around during that time. I finally made a decision to open Satori Skin Studio. I was working full time and in my downtime- figuring out every detail from leasing a place to building protocols, covering all legalities of opening a business, etc. All of this was very new to me, exhausting, and exciting at the same time. My home was filled with inventory boxes, supplies, and aesthetic equipment. Two months after returning to work, I opened Satori Skin Studio and three years later successfully still operating!

Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a passion for the aesthetics industry, as well as the need to connect with and help others. I enrolled in esthetics school in 2012 as well as a program under a dermatologist that allowed me to be certified in advanced aesthetic treatments. I began working in high-end day spas and soon shifted to working in a med spa under one of Dallas’ top Plastic Surgeons and a well known Dermatologist. My business offers a range of aesthetic services. I provide result-driven facial treatments which combines holistic practices, luxury feel, and medical technology. Most of my protocols specialize in anti-aging and preventative treatments. Satori offers full body waxing specializing in brow shaping, makeup application including bridal and special event, and semi-permanent makeup. I retail six different skincare lines with a mixture of medical, pharmaceutical grade, and botanical. My priority and goal is to achieve my clients desired results but also build long-lasting relationships with them. I believe in building trust and giving the client an overall experience- not just a service. I created Satori Skin Studio to be a relaxing, rejuvenating, and professional space for both men and women to look and feel their best.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve had for growing clientele is by focusing on the clientele that I do have and taking care of them, but also attaining their desired results. Word of mouth and referrals are extremely powerful in my industry. I believe in The Law of Attraction. It states that you attract what you are and what you put out in the world, you get back for yourself. I’ve build a solid and loyal clientele this way.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I feel growth in whatever industry you’re in is a series of pivots. My first pivot since opening Satori was attaining a medical director that abled me to provide the more result driven treatments and corrective skincare I was accustomed to while working in a med spa. I had been contemplating when I would pull the trigger on that and actually had a company contact me, and it worked out perfectly for my business growth. My next pivot may be delegating outside resources to help me run the business or bringing on a second Esthetician. Time will tell!
