We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amber Rose. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amber Rose below.
Amber Rose, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Andres says: “I think the time i started listening to music and playing it was perfect for me in shaping my play style. I was 15, and was into bands like system of a down and blink 182, different styles, but a wide variety. Any sooner or later would’ve gotten me into different artists, and different styles i assume, but it’s tough to say.”
Amber mentions: “I’ve been singing since I was 8 years old and took lessons to improve that skill. I’m glad I’ve been at that for so long, but I wish I would have focused more on the career aspect of it. When I was looking at college options, I really wanted to go into music but was discouraged from it because ‘You can’t make a living off that’. Well, I didn’t end up using my degree anyways so I think I would have enjoyed a music education more so that I could learn about the specifics.
Focusing on the band now, I think there are so many options out there to be heard, so that’s really great. We’ll keep working hard at it!”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hailing from the streets of San Diego, The Colour Monday takes you on a melodic journey of perfectly blended styles that open your ears to something different. Blending together genres like avante garde, experimental & alternative, while throwing in some chunky bass lines, they’ve created sounds that leave you wanting more.
The Colour Monday has performed locally in San Diego at venues such as The Soda Bar, The Casbah, and The Merrow, just to name a few. They have also been involved in the South Park Walkabout, The Callejón Project, and competed in the SDCCU Battle of the Bands, beating out all other competitors.
Currently, The Colour Monday is recording with Emerald Age Studios and has released several singles. You can find them streaming on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music, amongst others.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Amber here: I think that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is getting to watch my band create such amazing music. Since I am just vocals, I don’t do a lot of the creating, so getting to watch my friends write solos that make me get lost in the music. When I know that those parts are coming up in a song, I love to just close my eyes and hear how everything just comes together. All the small details that make it perfect, I just hope that one day, other people can truly enjoy what I hear.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is honestly something we are still working on. With so many options constantly being offered, it’s definitely a skill that I hope to one day perfect. When we first started building our social media page, it started out with getting our close friends to follow. Then, once we started getting our music out there, we started to get more followers online who were truly interested in our sound.
Just recently, we did a facelift to our account and decided to put ourselves out there again. When we started up again, we were posting every day, making sure that we were all over everyone’s feeds. Videos, photos, music.
As far as advice goes, I don’t have much to offer, but one thing I have stuck to is not giving into the “follow for follow” culture. I would prefer to have 400 followers who find our music and story intriguing, versus thousands who are probably fake profiles and won’t get us spread out into the world.
