Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Rivette. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Feeling misunderstood is completely normal in any walk of life. This is why it is important to trust your own gut, your own process, and move forward.
Of course it is just as valuable to humble yourself and allow accountability to help you grow and sophisticate your process, but overall you are the boss of you.
Do not allow feedback or misjudgment from others distract you past the learning experience it is meant to challenge you with.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Overall, I’m an artist. I love creating to build community, truth, and kindness.
Whether it’s comedy, horror, or a leather skirt I tore up and threw on a canvas – I want to share history using politics and religion and make the dinner table feel compelled, not disarmed.
Art is in itself such a vulnerable state that it throws your soul on its knees before the audience, giving them the audacity to listen and relate.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Most recently, I made a transition away from marriage to pursue my mental health.
As a mother, I would look at my children and ask myself – “ How can I make it for them? How can I make sure they are proud of the woman I’ve become? How can they be sure I love them?”
And that is when I knew I had to separate myself from codependency as much as possible and become that woman.
While transition itself is unsurprisingly an uphill journey, the gorgeous views along the journey are endless and rewarding. I’m so thankful to walk alongside God in this trek and know I’m not judged, condemned, and that I’m taken care of.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being a mother, full time worker, and artist simultaneously requires endless resilience, patience – and memory.
Just in the past few days – I had car trouble, a crown that fell off my front tooth, work 16 hours a day, my son’s second birthday, my kids meeting my brother for the first time, and that is the nutshell.
I just dust myself off and remember that showing up with a smile is 80% of the process.
