We recently connected with Amber Rice-Horvath and have shared our conversation below.
Amber , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
I had a customer that found me again at a local event to buy more of my temple tension tamer herbal balm for her headaches. She let me know that it is the only product that has worked to shorten the duration and severity of her headaches. She also loves my lip balm, so she purchased that as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a momtrepreneur. I have 2 boys (ages 7 and 2) and a 3rd on the way. My 3rd is a girl, so I am very excited for that. She is coming any day now, so I have been busy. I have a master’s degree in applied clinical nutrition and I am currently working on my doctorate for clinical nutrition. I will be graduating in 2024. I have owned my practice since 2016, and I have a passion for helping and inspiring others. I currently run a virtual practice and have partnered with a local gym here in Denver and I help their clients with their health and wellness goals. I started working in nutrition couseling after I went on my own wellness journey to lose weight. I have been a dancer since I was 3, so well over 30 years and teaching fitness classes like Zumba have allowed me to dance, have fun, and inspire others all at the same time. I have been a Zumba instructor for 11 years and I just LOVE it. I also teach POUND, a cardio drumming class that was founded in Los Angeles. Teaching group fitness has become part of my identity and I can’t imagine not teaching. Amber’s Earth was founded after I graduated with my Master’s degree. I learned how to use herbs to heal and treat certain conditions and it was facinating for me. I started making items for friends and family as favors for events I would host and I received very good feedback from everyone. It is my friends and family that encouraged me to make it a business, so I went for it! Now, it has become one of my passions like nutrition counseling and group fitness. Currently all the products I make are handcrafted, natural, organic and have 10 ingredients or less. I take pride in providing the most clean and high quality ingredients out there. I currently make lip balms, sugar scrubs, salt scrubs, herbal balms, aromatherapy room and body mists, and the latest, body butters. I came out with my body butter line this year and I have gotten a great response. I can’t keep them on my shelves when I make them. I currently sell my products online (Etsy-ambersearthcreations.etsy.com and Shopify ambersearth.com) as well as in person at local events and farmers markets in the Denver metro area, as well as Colorado Springs. Be sure to check out my IG for the latest updates on products and events where my products will be featured and offered. IG: @ambers_earth
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am born and raised from Los Angeles. I decided to make the move from LA to Colorado in 2019. I decided to leave all of the businesses that I had spent building out there and start over again in the city of Denver. It was a gamble, but if you don’t step out of your comfort zone from time to time, you won’t grow. I knew the move would be the best for my family and I. I moved with no job or business foundation, no place to live, and the money in my pocket and bank account. Was it scary? YES!! But I had faith that things would turn out just as they should and they did. In LA, I focused on my group fitness business the most. I was teaching anywhere from 10-15 classes per week and that was just hard on my body. When we moved, I knew it was important for me to switch my focus and generate more revenue from my other businesses. They were in desperate need for some TLC and cultivation. So I did just that. Being the owner of 3 businessess, it is important priorities are recognized and respected all while giving each business the time and attention it needs to be successful. Currenly, I focus on my nutrition counseling business first and foremost, then my product line, and group fitness comes last. Teaching group fitness has become more like a hobby or side hustle than a business and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I try not to make it such a big deal and just have fun and it shows. Those that take my class can really see and feel my passion when we dance together.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly, most people would say social media, but in my case it has been word of mouth. I have worked with many referrals of current clients that I have. This is also true for group fitness. However, I do think there is a place for social media that has also helped me to get new clients as well. Posting dance videos or choreography videos on social media can be a great way to get new people to try my classes. Posting pics and videos displaying my products has also helped to generate orders. I do think going live on social media can be an effective way to get new clients too. It’s important you have an online presence no matter what.
