We were lucky to catch up with Amber Price recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I am very big on treating people the way I want to be treated. It’s truly a passion of mine and I make sure my clients feel that! I make sure every client is pampered and and relaxed so they can enjoy their service! As women we are always on the go and I truly believe getting your hair done should be a spa experience and a place to relax and unwind. I take it very seriously.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Amber Price a Dallas native, mother of 3 and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School class of 2003, and received my cosmetology licenses from the AVEDA Institute in Dallas, in July of 2015. Before I was in the beauty industry. I was in corporate finance for about 10 to 12 years. I kept climbing up the ranks, but that could only take you so far. I developed so many useful skills for business and customer service, but did not feel like I was able to reach my full potential. I also got tired of all the layoffs, which is when I made the decision to either go to culinary, fashion design school, or cosmetology school. During that time I was transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair, and was finding a deeper understanding of myself during that time. As I was transitioning and documenting my journey other ladies started, asking me what I was doing, and how can they transition and then from there that picked up my interest in The Beauty industry which is so big industry with so many different avenues you could go down, so I chose it and I also think it chose me! When I made the decision I had to sacrifice a lot I had to sacrifice the security from a corporate job. I had to sacrifice paid time off, insurance and everything else, because if I was going to do it, I know I had to be all in. Til this day I’m eight years in, and it’s been the best decision of my life. I have such a passion for hair and I have become obsessed with hair and the beauty industry as a whole. One fun fact about me is, I actually started off as a make up artist before I made the transition to be a full-time hairstylist, but it’s like the more I was doing make up the more I started doing make up and hair , and then that turned into me just wanting to do hair and that was when It started seeing a huge need within my community. When it comes to being a black woman and our hair, it has been a very long journey of self discovery and acceptance and now I’m seeing that guidance is also needed. There are so many of us who neglect our hair, and it’s only because of what we were taught , so now we are at the point to where someone needs to step up more and allow women to know that their hair is capable of some wonderful and beautiful things and it only starts with us just taking care of it which is also taking care of yourself. Our hair is truly our crown and I do believe that taking care of your hair is a part of self-care, self-acceptance and wellness and I’m creating an avenue that I don’t believe is really out there at the moment but I feel when you go get your hair done it should be like a spa experience. It should be where a woman can literally come let her hair down relax breathe and allow her scalp and hair to be cleansed, cleaned thoroughly and leave looking fabulous I am creating an experience, I’m creating life habits. I’m creating a safe space for women to love themselves a bit more through their hair and I absolutely love the journey that I’m on with creating this. I specialize in doing natural hair while focusing on scalp and hair care through steam therapy and other hair treatments.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being my authentic self, with my passion and care for my clients hair. You see it when you talk to me, you see it through the videos that I create, and you experienced it when you’re in my chair. From the time you walk through the door to the shampoo bowl to your finished look, all that has contributed to my reputation and I want to continue to build upon that. As well as the knowledge I have to share with women when it comes to just taking care of your hair, it seems like a very simple concept but it actually goes deeper than that. Taking care of your hair is also taking care of yourself and I keep repeating that over and over and over because I really want women to understand that taking care of their hair is also taking care of yourself. This is the reputation that I have started and that I want to continue to build upon. The slogan that I have for my business is The Beauty Lyfe, where Hair meets Wellness. I’m creating something and my reputation is falling behind that, along with the passion that I have that is breeding all of this into existence.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has definitely been working very well for me. My clients always get asked and they always refer people to me from their family members to their coworkers to just random people they may meet in the grocery store. The second thing would definitely be Instagram and Instagram has been huge in building my clientele, my reels and just being present on social media has helped as well. The third thing that has definitely help is the scheduling software that I use which is StyleSeat. StyleSeat has been very very good to me with helping me build my clientele, the strategy that they use for marketing Hands-down very very good. I have no complaints with them. I’m glad that I did make the switch to StyleSeat and they definitely contribute to my growing clientele, and I look forward to the continued growth from StyleSeat from Instagram as well as from referrals for my clients. I will be expanding that into more Facebook interaction as well as expanding over to YouTube and possibly a podcast that’s still not certain but is definitely a huge possibility.
