We were lucky to catch up with Amber Perkins recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

The first time I knew I wanted to be a creator was when I saw and heard Missy Elliot. I was around 9 years old, It was the Supa Dupa Fly album. I saw this lady on tv that looked just like me! A chubby, brown skin girl that wore baggy clothes and makeup. When i saw her dancing, singing and creating a new wave for my culture I knew that’s what I wanted to do. What i saw in her was an ability to be free to create and manifest any reality i wanted no matter where i came from what i looked like or what people might think of me. I never miss an opportunity to create and feel alive in the moment of creating whether it be writing a song ,designing a necklaces, or designing clothing. Creating is what makes me feel alive and i hope that sharing it with others gives them the same elevated feeling and experience.

My Name is Amber Perkins. I am from Austin Texas. I am CREATOR I am an ENTREPRENEUR. The products and services i currently offer from my brand Beyond is:

Handmade Healing crystals necklaces and accessories such as palo santo and sage. The name of this brand is Beyond Crystals. The purpose of this brand is to embody the feeling of “looking beyond yourself to know yourself” to go past what you believe you know about yourself and go deeper into healing and truly connecting with yourself. When wearing the crystal necklaces or burning the sage and palo santo I want customers to feel like a weight is being lifted , refreshed and wanting more of that renewed energy.

I am a DJ. A.M.P the community DJ. I love music and love experiencing it with people during memorable parts of life such as weddings, family reunions, birthdays, school dances, brunches you name it ! i’m there to uplift and create an ambiance of pure happiness and create memories that last life times.

I am a music artist, song writer, recording artist. My artist name is Beyond A.M.P. I write songs for others artist and myself and am learning to maneuver in this fast pace world of technology and social media to share it with the world. I can write all genres but enjoy RnB, Hip Hop, soul, and pop the most.

I am an owner of a food business i started for my little brother Ronnie Brown. better known as “The Fry Guy” . We Sell delicious loaded french fries. My family and i Started this business to show Ronnies ability to own his own business. Ronnie has down syndrome which can be labeled as a disability but Ronnie has shown that there are nothing but endless possibilities for anyone with dis”abilities” We travel to local events in Austin and do catering events, working our way from a food booth to a food truck.

I have more in the works! The above is only the start of my entrepreneurial journey. i look forward to expanding and gaining resources locally and around the world

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

one of the lessons i’ve had to learn on the journey of entrepreneurship is to trust the process. There will be many people around you that will put there doubts and opinions on you. Not be hateful but because of fear. I had to learn to make a plan and stick to it no matter what anyone said or what bumps may appear in the road. I would wait to do certain things because of questions other people had for me but only i had the answers to my own vision. I had to learn to trust not only the process but truly trust myself and the visions I have. I’m still learning this.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the feeling while creating. It’s almost unexplainable, it’s like time stops and you get lost in the creative process, you look up and its been 8 hours. Its powerful to create something and see the very thing you created floating around in the world, being shared and experienced. Creators rule the world.
