Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Moose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I still tear up when I think about a Mother’s Day project, I put together a few years ago. It started with a simple concept: show mothers their beauty. I wanted to take regular moms I had met through previous booking and offer them a chance to let their inner wild woman out in a sexy swimsuit shoot. I’ll be honest, I was a little worried the whole thing would fall apart. I was asking teachers and nurses and stay at home moms to strip down to a bathing suit and act like sports illustrated models in a very public waterfall around complete strangers. But what actually occurred was nothing short of magic. The moment the first woman started to get nervous she was met with a line of compliments and suggestions. Women were laughing and clapping and cheering each other on. By the end of it those strangers walked away with more than the beautiful photos we captured. I see them on Facebook to this day still rooting for each other in all life’s little moments. After the shoot, I even received several emails gushing about how much fun it had been and how great it felt to connect with other women like that. The whole project became much more than just showing them their own beauty. It ended up showing them each other’s beauty as well.
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As long as I remember I’ve been dressing people up and taking their photos. What started as just wanting to create art became a business of wanting to show people that they ARE art. That everyday moments are just as beautiful as the big magical one. Nothing makes me happier than when a parent tells me I captured who their kid really is in a photo. Or when someone who, “hates their smile”, tells me they actually love the way they look. It’s not about perfection. It’s about the beauty in the unperfect.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to create! I get to take ideas and make them real life. Whether it’s Halloween themed Quinceanera portraits or Breakfast Club themed family sessions- people bring me their imaginations and together we make art.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Most of my returning clients prefer my services because beyond taking great photos, I’m pretty laid back on location. I shoot primarily outdoors in Texas, so we run into lots of unexpected weather as well as an unpredictable toddler or two from time to time. After over a decade, I’ve learned to go with flow and keep everyone as stress free as possible. Booking, planning outfits, and rounding everyone up the day of is already stressful enough. I like it when a client is able to walk away from our shoot thinking, ‘that was actually kind of fun!”. That makes for the best photos too.
