We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Masiello a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I’ve always had a strong passion for health and fitness, which led me to become a certified macro coach eight years ago. My journey took a significant turn when I became a barre3 instructor in April 2021, marking a pivotal moment in my life story.
The year prior, 2020, was undoubtedly one of the toughest periods I’ve ever faced. It wasn’t just the collective challenges of the global pandemic; my personal life was also in turmoil. Discovering my husband’s long-term affair, was devastating to say the least. Additionally, the loss of my father, whom I’d been searching for my entire adult life but never had the chance to meet, hit me hard. We had plans to meet in May 2020, but due to covid, those plans were cancelled. Tragically, he passed away unexpectedly the day before my birthday, leaving me with the heartbreaking news delivered by a sister I never had the opportunity to meet as well.
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always had the desire to help people feel better. Whether that was feeling better in their skin, getting dressed in clothes that would fit better, a better relationship with food, or feel strong during class. I wanted to make an impact on peoples lives.
I’ve struggled myself with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, confidence, and so much more. So if I could help one person feel better, or even smile/have a better day… I felt fulfilled.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
2020 was by far the worst year of my life. But leading up to 2020 wasn’t just roses and butterflies. As a child I survived physical & sexual abuse from a step dad. I am beyond resilient. There has been days I didn’t want to continue feeling the pain, or why I was given the life I was dealt with. However, I was blessed with 3 amazing kids, and they give me a reason to keep going, and keep living. Through that I had found ways to make a strong impact on the world, person by person that I get to meet. I truly pride myself on being a really kind person, because you never know the battles they are fighting that you we all don’t know about.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I don’t know if anything I have said is what you’re looking for, but I shared anyway.
I feel like I have succeeded because of my history, my background, and my story. I am who I am today because of those battles I had to fight.
