We were lucky to catch up with Amber Limkemann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
As an educator, one of the most important qualities you can possess is integrity. The idea of doing the right thing even when no one is watching. This is of great importance because we are responsible for ensuring the care and well-being of children. Families count on us to always follow best practices to keep their children healthy and happy. This is especially important in our youngest classrooms, where little learners may not be able to advocate for themselves. The relationships we build with children and their families is crucial, and cannot be sustained without integrity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Having taught in Olathe Public Schools for 10 years, I’ve always loved being around children and have a passion for education and nurturing relationships. This passion grew after I enrolled my son in child care where I saw the interaction and education he was gaining there, and made me strive towards one day opening my own child care center. This dream became a reality when my husband and I joined The Learning Experience family in 2020 and opened our own TLE center in Liberty, MO in January 2021. We opened our second early childhood education center in August 2023, The Learning Experience – Blue Valley. My husband Scott and I reside in Lenexa, KS with our three beautiful children. I have a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a Masters in Reading Instruction from MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
A few practices that have helped us manage and maintain a team with high morale are staying consistent with expectations for all employees and showing our appreciation for the work they do each day. Our staff always know our position in any given situation and whether or not they agree with the final decision, know we are consistent and do not waiver. We also try to show our staff how much we value their efforts. Many times teaching can be considered a thankless job, however, it’s one of the most important jobs out there. We try to do random acts of kindness for our staff as well as big celebrations throughout the year to highlight all they do!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
One of the ways we helped build our reputation within our market is through community events and social media campaigns. We always try to share the positive ways we are impacting the community around us.
